AC Clutch not engaging, diagnosed kind of.
Alright summer is right around the corner and my AC is not working. It was working just peachy last summer.
-Checked the pressure in the system and that is good. (otherwise if the pressure was too low it would not allow the clutch to engage). So no leaks there.
-Checked the spacing between the pulley and the clutch, measures around 0.020 possibly a little higher as my feeler gauge only goes to .020 but it was a snug fit. (Acceptable range is 0.012 − 0.020" to my understanding)
-Checked fuses, all good there.
-Checked relays, and pressure switch. All good also.
-Checked power going to the compressor, getting 14V at the connector.
Now my guess is that the coil on the compressor is shot. I've been reading lots of threads about guys taking a "shim" out or getting the kit from the dealer (A/C COMPRESSOR SERVICE MR315936) and fixing the issue.
What are your thoughts on what to do next? Take the front of the clutch off (the 14mm nut) and taking a shim out?
Order the kit ^ and hope it fixes it?
Order a new rotor/armature kit?
Any input is appreciated. I am putting everything back together for now (daily) and will make a decision over the next day or two. Thanks!!
