I'm gonna buck the trend here and say don't sweat it too much. Try and be careful and not break the plastic bits that hold the clip in and try not to launch it but if you do it really doesn't matter much. I've seen SOOOO many older dsms and fords with broken and missing clips or entire pieces of the harness connector chunked off and it never seems to matter much. The connector engages snugly and as long as it goes on tight it don't much matter if you have the stupid clip. I honestly think it was more of a "laymen don't mess with this connector" clip than anything else.
