Fuel filter query

Hi Guys,

I've performed a search on this website prior to this.

I understand that there is a sock-type fuel filter located on the fuel pump…

However, i thought someone mentioned that there may be another one?

I don't see any conventional canister-types?

let me know your thoughts

thanks

It's inside of the fuel pump hanger and is not serviceable. Can't be changed without changing the whole hanger unfortunately.

That still doesn't replace the internal filter. All that would do is replace the pump sock.

You can get replacement hanger assemblies(with the included filter) for about 50$

Where at? The cheapest I've seen them is used on eBay from TAE for $75 and there's no guarantee the used one is any better then the used one you already have.

so what your saying is, that there is a "hidden" filter somewhere in this thing;

And the sock shaped filter bag that connects to the pump is a separate one.

Yes that is exactly correct. In the picture you can see him holding the pump hanger out of the tank. The round white part on the right is where the internal filter is located. Man just looking at that picture makes me cringe. All the times I've swapped pumps.......

care to share your experience?

It would probably give me a bit of education. since, I've ordered a Sard pump, and will be doing this for the first time.

i wonder if putting a layer of sound-deadening material under the seat might stop some of the pump and road noise.

Walbro pumps are pretty loud but I don't know about sard pumps. I've had 3 walbro modded 255's and now I run an aeromotive 340 pump. The aeromotive is quiet, I don't hear it ever at all. With the walbro I put a thick layer of memory foam under the seat and that pretty much took care of inside the car noise. Although you could still hear it standing next to the car outside of it, the walbro's were SO loud. As far as changing it out you can do it yourself in 30 minutes tops. There's a really good how-to on evomoto you should read.

Yeh i have read that link.

it looks pretty straight forward.

and the biggest tip is to do it when the tank isn't full.

As discussed recently, the aero 340 is a bit big for me.

don't really want to bother with upgrading the harness.

Ill let you know how the Sard goes.

Apparently its got a plastic turbine…so no where near as much noise as the steel walbro.

im assuming the factory one must be plastic?

That's a good question and I'm not positive but I think the stock one is not plastic. The reason I think its quieter is because its not flowing as much fuel = less noise, and also better design perhaps. Stock IX pump is 190lph and the stock VIII is even less then that.

Yep,

but you have to admit, although the stock pumps aren't meant for hi-flow.

At specified flow, they are pretty robust. They last forever.

Ive seen a particular model of car that had a bad fuel pump design, and the model had to be recalled..
