top end of the rev band , you have to rev it to like 9000 for any power, the car only make 250 hp it not a screamer from 70+, remember low torque as well, it is a great handling car, I have raced some in my BMW M roadster beat them no problem, but would not say either are really fast from 70+, you will need more HP and torque for quicker numbers, or if you cheap and gear your car for this, but most of anything i can see that is quicker than the EVO seems to be bigger V8s, like my vette or Cobra mustang. havent ran the GT from 70 on.

dont feel so bad...the rsx-s has better gearing and a lil more hp than my 02" civic si and i can keep up with wrx's ont he highway

highway races are more about gearing than that car...i cruise in 5th gear at 70 mph around 3.5k rpms...so when i step on it in 3rd my car moves...the rsx actually has better gearing and a 6th gear

In general, highway/street racing is so variable that on any given instance one car seemingly has a shot.

First, in this case, keep in mind you probably hesitiated for a sec or two before you decided to chase him. Second, you had to downshift to 4th after you decided you would like to chase him. By that time, the guy in the acura is at full WOT. It would probably take you a few more seconds before you would have started to make up the distance because remember you have to still accelerate to get to his rate of acceleration and then past it before you start to see yourself pulling on him. Since you shut it down after 100 mph there was probably not enough time for you to start pulling on him. Heck, I honestly don't think many cars let alone the EVO could be able to make up the distance in that short time.

Don't worry the Evo is fast, so what if that Acura driver goes home and tells his buddies that he raced an Evo and won. Straight up, we all know that's not possible. AND it doesn't mean you were a bad driver. You were safe to shut down at 100mph rather than endanger other drivers on the road. Kudos to you!

One tip that might help when downshifting is to floor the accelerator pedal when you are downshifting and don't let up. During the time the pedal is floored and you are downshifting and hitting the clutch, the RPM's will jump up right into the powerband of fourth gear and you will be rocking and rolling. Be careful not to miss fourth otherwise you will bump up against the redline RPM's and look a bit silly.

Yes, a lightly modified RSX-S can out run you at high speeds but get some mods on the Evo i.e. reflash and or exhaust and you'll pull on those RSX-S. But, remember RSX-S can't go 160mph so a stock Evo will out run it if you dare to go that fast.
I know a guy who only has an intake and he could pull on any stock Evo at high speed or any WRX's.
Yet again from a stop, you'll make any RSX-S look pretty weak.

can a BOV thats leaking slow you down? I don't know if my Greddy Type-S is perfectly tuned or not. Maybe that was a factor? all the leakage? if there were any...

Increasing the flow of gas helps a lot.

An exhast and downpipe will help a lot for your top end!!!!!!! This is one of the few bolts ons that you can feel the difference.

If that isn't enough you need a BC, Fuel pump, Larger Injectors, and cams + tuning.

If thats not enough you need a larger turbo.

Hope this helps.

I've always wondered, if for around $1000 you can add a turboback, and get 25-30whp, why doesn't Mitsu just add this, increase the price a grand, have better numbers for marketing (305 at the crack or whatever) and be able to one up the STi in yet another department. Seems it would make sense to me.

because they'll be competing against their own business. if they make the best there is then "ralliart" (obviously the one in japan and not the US) wont be able to sell any aftermarket parts to make money. Also materials and cost matters a lot during production, they probably give you a decent material exhaust and design vs a nice modified one. Also noise compliance will be an issue.

those are just a few ideas etc....

if someone would pull next to me, I would just accelerate (like simevo said) until I pass him up with bone stock engine, I'm sure the Acura will not go past 120mph, btw: anybody know the top speed for RSX

Yeah, the top speed for a type-s is about 140-145 mph depending on the highway, but in that range. Also, it takes a while to get there.

Look man...TB, camshafts, ebc, and retune. Those mods will turn an EVO into another beast. No rsx or sti will come close to you even on the high end.

so what are the chances of the RXS guy going on the RSX forum and telling everyone he beat the crap out of an EVO?
