i always hear comments of our evo's high end acceleration sucks... and i pretty much agree. I think if you're accelerating at 80 mph + , the car won't pull on a car better than say....... the RSX type s. (personal experience) Rather it seemed as if the guy was pulling on me. (FYI: didn't go past 100mph) Eased it down before it got TOO out of hand

SO WHAT MODS CAN WE DO TO IMPROVE THIS WEAK SIDE OF THE EVO?

I'd say you should get that HKS cam, depending on the lift/duration you get,your car should scream like a banshee
on the top end.

 

well here's what happened.... the guy was tailing me when i was going around 75 - 80 mph. he pulls next to me.. he launches off and i downshift to 4th (which wasted about 1/2 a sec) .... and i guess my turbo spool lagged about a second.. and i finally the turbo kicked in. I got up to max 110mph.. and i let off the gas bc i didnt like the idea of racing on the freeway. The guy had an exhaust... but other than that couldn't tell if he had any other mods..

 

he had about max 2 car lengths on me... and

 

CHRIS in HB, of course our EVOS DON"T SUCK AT ALL.... i mean when i heard before that our top end acceleration was crappy bc of the Awd. I didn't think it would be so crappy that i felt a RSX type S was gonna rape me. I thought it was crappy as in it doesn't compare to our 0-80mph acceleration. But i just found out that it SERIOUSLY DOESN"T compare to our low end accelerationg

 

I personally don't think an RSX type S should be able to best your EVO, granted your shifting needs some improvement,but more so, it sounds as if your fear for racing on the highway was your major limitation.

 

Buddy, I've read 18,000,000 threads about this or that being bad on the Evo. On any given day, the Evo will lose to a number of cars, whether from a poor launch, a missed shift, not enough throttle, etc. etc. The top-end doesn't suck compared to 90% of cars out there. It sucks when you expect the Evo to be a McLaren F1 for $30,000. Not flaming you, but just tired of hearing about every damn thing the Evo supposedly sucks at.

If you want top-end pull for $30,000, buy an S2000. For all-around, I'll keep my Evo. Besides, is beating an RSX on the freeway that important to you? It's more fun letting them try to bait you and then just yawn as you look at them.

BTW - I don't think Evos suck - notice the rolled eyes..

 

i agree typhoon.... i think if we did a 3 honk start... i would've pulled on the guy. But bc of my absurdly ****ty driving, i feel i got raped. But in reality i just kept up with the guy

hahahah i guess i overratted the EVO. But all in all its a BAD *** CAR for 30,000.

I was gonna bust the YAWN on his ***, but i had a hour and 1/2 drive ahead of me.. so i thought might as well speed it up for about 5 minutes.

It's tough to decide what to do at 75-80mph. Do you downshift for the remaining few rpm or just floor 5th?

The blinding low rpm acceleration certainly makes the latter 3rd of the tach seem lackluster. I'm not shocked an RSX-S could pull, though, I don't know if it *should*.

Perhaps some reallife testing could tell. Get out on a deserted highway. Put it at 80 and floor it in 5th while timing it. Then do the same dropping it to 4th. Should be interesting and can help you know what's best.

Hell, not a bad idea - I may have to try this... heh... good luck next time. And eat the next RSX-S you see at a stoplight!
