Evo 9 Timing belt MIVEC cam gear

I am in the process of setting the timing on my 9. The head was removed and the oil pressure is off so the intake cam gear spins free through the mivec range. While setting the position of the cam gear to the valve cover notch, should the cam gear be all the way anti clockwise or clockwise ? I hope this question makes sense.

I was confused by this as well when I did the timing on my car last year. I bought the plastic tool that you put in between the two cam gears to hold them steady, problem solved for me, no more wondering lol

I have the plastic tool. My question is more around how the cam should be positioned relative to the cam gear. Technically the cam can be either a few degrees clockwise or a few degrees anticlockwise for any given cam gear position.

As long as the gear is lined up to the mark, the cam will be in the right position when the oil pressure builds.

I set it at default and lined up the cams with the valve cover and now Im having an issue with the cam slipping a few degrees at certain points. see video right around the end of the video, you can see the cam slip and hear the snap. any idea what it could be ?

How do you know its slipping a few degrees? Can you try to repost the video so we can see the "cam slip" your talking about?
