Evoscan/charging system

Is there anything in Evoscan that could affect my charging system?

Got my car tuned a few weeks ago and ever since it seems that my alternator can't handle a load bigger than my headlights unless driving. At idling the voltage will drop down to 12v or lower. And yes did tests on charging system and on my second alternator.

So just curious if the tuning could affect it since it is tied into the PCM.

no. Did you load test your battery?

I’m sure you checked but there should be an alt fuse in your main box under the hood. However, that would affect it at all times not just when your lights are on.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide for charging system in the Mitsubishi Evo9 Tehnical Manual? download the PDF for Evo9 from my website.

Mitsubishi engineers have this to say...
Step 1. Is the battery in good condition?
Step 2. Is the generator drive belt in good condition?
Step 3. Does the generator malfunction light turn on brightly when the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position?
Step 4. Does the generator malfunction light go out after starting the engine?
Step 5. Are the generator output line and ground line in good condition?
test for step 5... Engine: 2,500 r/min
•Headlight: ON (high beam)
•Voltage between generator "B" terminal and the positive battery terminal OK: 0.5 V or less
•Voltage between the negative battery terminal and generator body OK: 0.5 V or less

Step 6. Is the output current normal?
Step 7. Is the regulated voltage normal?
Step 8. Are the voltage drops in the generator output line normal?

there is probably a malfunction in the generator output wire. Check the wiring between the generator "B" terminal and the positive battery terminal (including fusible link).
If a terminal is not sufficiently tight or if the harness has become discolored due to overheating, repair and then test again.

18.Run the engine for 10 minutes at an idle.

If the voltage is outside the standard value, there is a malfunction of the voltage regulator or the generator (Refer to the following table).

PROBABLE CAUSE: Open or short circuit in diode (generator B terminal)
PROBABLE CAUSE: Open or short circuit in stator coil

NOTE: The voltage of the generator "B" terminal can undulate. This is produced when the regulator operates according to fluctuations in the generator load (current), and is normal for the generator.
If the voltage is abnormally high (approximately 2 V or more during idling), the wires between the generator "B" terminal and the battery have broken due to fuse blowing, etc. The generator is usually operating properly.

If you are talking about the 100amp fuse on the positive cable yes it is good. And I have double checked all other fuses under the hood to be sure.

To all others thanks for the replies, and all info is well noted, haven't worried about it to much, I really don't use my AC much and don't need the defrost or heater right now either. But do plan on tracking this issue down and getting it fixed this weekend or possibly next week sometime depending on schedule.

Will be sure to let everyone for good reference!
