To rebuild or not? Evo 1-9 4G63T Engines
Hey peeps.
Now these cars are getting older and as you may know, MM is discontinuing the Evo series very soon.
I'm down in New Zealand, and it is rare to find any pre 2000 Evo stock here. Many have been rebuilt.
To keep these cars running, they'll need rebuilding down the track. Just curious about rebuilds of evo engines (1-9) and what you would modify and what you wouldn't in a rebuild?
Any two cents?

depends if you want to stay 2.0 or do a stroker. From personal observation I have seen 2.0s make decent power and last a long time after they're built. For strokers they make a ton of Tq and don't seem to last as long but again, just my personal observation

Jury is still out on mine but the guy who built mine before I bought it put a 2.4 Eclipse block on it and longer rods so I basically have a 2.4 stroker instead of the typical 2.3. Built engines typically don't last as long as stock is because forged internals don't last as long as cast in terms of mileage and day to day driving. Plus, let's admit, once you go forged you tend to beat on it a little more and push the envelope a little more than you otherwise would. Will be curious to see if running E85 helps extend life due to higher knock tolerance, there's a little more room for forgiveness I would think.
