AEM UEGO reading rich

hey guys today I installed my aem wideband in my 97 evo 4 and started it up and its reading 10s 11s at idle.
this kit is brand new i installed as the instructions said. it surly couldn't be running that rich as the car idles fine. Tomorrow ill remove the sensor and test it with a petrol rag to make sure the sensor is not a dud!

Has this happend to anyone before?
I have searched and searched but nothing like what mine is doing.

any help would be great!

Edit - the uego sensor is fine i just went and test it with a gasoline rag works fine.

Where is the sensor installed? Is it after any catalysts or mounted out of the exhaust stream in any way (oversized bung)?

Weird. There isn't any calibration on these, perhaps you got a bad sensor.
If you key on with the sensor out of the exhaust pipe, does it go full lean?

Weird. You're positive you aren't running that rich? I've seen it before, it does happen. Your exhaust would be slightly irritating to your eyes.

Maybe it is reading correct and you are idling rich. What does it show as you are steady cruising? If it shows ~14.5 AFR, it is probably reading correct at idle.

Also, does that gauge have a startup sweep? My analog guage does and will read off if I don't give it time to do its thing before I actually start the engine.

That's a good point too. The AEM analogs do have to wait a few seconds after key on before cranking, and they need to be powered with a wire that is hot while cranking, else the self calibration will fail.

For constant power, I went directly to the battery terminal clamp.
