New to evo's, could use some guidance.
Hey guys this is my first post on here and I'm not sure if it's in the right place or not. I'm going to look at this Evo 8 on Sunday and was wondering what you guys think of it.

It has more miles than I would like but it's really clean and a few of my other friends that own Evo's know the guy selling it and he took care of it really well.
I guess what I'm basically asking is what would you be comfortable paying for the car? Or do you think I should keep looking if I can't get him down to a certain price? Any help is appreciated as I'm new to these cars.
Thanks,
Anthony

Anthony,it's really clean car, test drive it if you can.if not let the owner drive but you have to listen for clunk and stuff like that.ask about when the last time he changed the clutch cause I think you will need one soon.price is steep. You need to negotiate on price, like around $13 max $14K.believe me you'll need money for the future services.and ask him when the last time he change the timing belt, water pump and other things.good luck.

i would give it credit that its clean but for 16,500 you could get a evo 9, has the can been in any accidents? any oil leaks, is the maint. up to date? for a 03 evo with that miles I would'nt pay more than 12K. The miles are good but the price he went way up, I would keep on looking just when you look at one look for tranny grinds, transfer case differential whines, smooth idle, any CEL, oil leaks things like that

You can try shooting for a little lower like 14-15.
I don't know what evos are going for in your area, but people are asking ridiculous prices for evos here. For example an 03 w/ 150k miles on it going for $16.5k. Or an 03 w 66k miles selling for $24k.
I'm not sure if people are actually paying these prices or not, but I'm strongly considering a brand new wrx if I can't find an evo for the right price.

This guy has only had the car 6 months so he's not sure on some things. He's a Honda technician at a dealership and wants to go back to NA cars so that's why he said he's selling it. He thinks it still has the factory clutch in it if it has been replaced because it doesn't feel aggressive and he said the timing belt has been changed he just isn't sure on when. I know they have to be changed every 60k so that's like right now if it hasn't been done recently. He just changed the oil, plugs and did a coolant flush. Compression was 150-160 across all 4 cylinders and he said it was tuned by a guy in KC named Boston Hatcher. He said the carfax reported "functional damage", apparently a fender and headlight were replaced along with the hood being painted but everything lines up fine he said. But yea there is no way I'm paying 16,500.

He wants too much for it. I just sold my Evo VIII with 96k miles on it for $14,400. And in the real world of buying and selling cars, mods shouldn't make any difference with the price. In fact, mods often bring the value of the car down believe it or not.

^^Was thinking the same thing. If you are new to these cars try and find someone to take with you. Dude drove it for not that many miles and want to get rid of it already.........I get he's a Honda guy but now he want to jump ship back to NA. See the thing is when ppl buy these cars and find out something isn't right with it, instead of dealing with it themselves they "Heisman the **** out of it on someone else" then u are left with problems and when these cars begin to give problems it can get $$$ real quick, then you get the "oh man I didn't know, it didn't do that when I had it" line. I am not saying its a bad car or a bad seller, just that the timeline of events and reasoning aren't adding up, I say keep looking.......

Well I talked with the guy yesterday when we met up. I brought two of my friends with me, one has an VII and the other a X. The car is clean, as in only one door ding. Spoiler must have been redone because there is no peeling at all. The main reason he wants so much is because of the gram lights that are on it other wise he would take 15k and then I could talk him down from there. Anyways it rode fine, no weird noises, whines, clunks or anything like that. There was a rattle in the front right wheel area only when we started from a stop until we got going like 5ish miles per hour. Any thoughts? Maybe a brake line or the bumper since it has the quick release pins installed on it? Anyways he bought it from a dealer in KC back in January but his financing is getting kind of expensive and he's trying to buy a house so that's why he said he's selling. The friends I brought with me know the guy so that makes me feel a lot better about the car. I've only found like 1 "stock" one and that was in NJ which would never work because of my job.

Spend the money and run a CarFax on it. At least you see the history of the car and any problems it may have. Just note CarFax is a tool and is not the gospel on a car. Carfax misses a lot of things on services/title issues etc. on some cars.
I agree with you on talking him down on his advertised price.
