Need help...
I just took my car in for an oil change and an outstanding service campaign for an ECM upgrade, I bought the car in Feb. with no infication that it is anything but stock. The dealer just called me saying there was a tune in the ECU, and when they flashed the upgrade they "fried the ECU, and a new one is $1200". A) does this even make sense ? B) I believe them to br liable, thoughts?. I purchased a third party warranty on the car from a dealership, the car is in the exact condition as it was when the warranty and car were purchased... need help so I can be better informed, thanks.

$1200? No. And i don't see how they were able to fry an ECU from just doing a reflash. And aren't they liable to get you a new one anyways? Which shop in Cincy did you go to?

this is ridiculous. like someone said, if they saw it was tuned, they shouldn't have proceeded and if they claim they fried your ECU and THEN figured out it was tuned... that's absurd. they're supposed to be the experts. they shouldn't **** up your car and then claim to be ignorant victims.

I did know they were doing the service campaign. They claim to not check for modified ECU programming, and that to do so requires disassembly of ECU, and a call to Mitsubishi. I was not warned of any dangers to my vehicle. They are claiming that the ECU failing is evidence of a tune, and thats the only evidence they have.

(Cough) BULL****! (Cough). Dealerships are a thieving joke! They got me once and I never went back! They charged me for a tsb that should have been covered by warranty. I tell everyone to buy a tech manual and some tools and do that crap yourself! Unless you know the service tech personally!

ok when you generally buy a car from a dealer, its put through a check list and the car must have warranty. The car is also sold "as is". If they damaged anything in the car in a service and when it is sold as is, then they will need to fix it. You have a good case to take them to consumer affairs, or whatever consumer support group you have in the states.
