a noobs evo 9 perspective - first drive
So I took my 9 out for its first real run on the weekend, its got a mild tune and turbo back pipe and whiteline bars on it,its been 3 weeks in my hands and one of my mates came along for the ride, he usually talks how quick his old golf gti is and how chipped diesels kick butt etc. I picked him up and as I took off, i kicked it in the guts in second and third hard, hit a round about without slowing down, the words were like this... OMG this is crazy, so a good start...we went up to wild country and dropped in behind a couple of sports bikes...able to keep up with them easily, then hit some heavy sweepers, no big deal with fresh yoko advans, i think his words were....this thing defies logic. I ended up giving him a short drive down a dead ender, just so he can tell his mates, he has drvien one. I warned him that this stuff is adictive and dont blame me if his marriage breaks up trying to get one for himself
Anyway there was a few things that came apparent to me when driving, I have driven a stick shift all my life and now I sort of have to relearn how to drive again, its not easy to stay smooth on power and use a heavy duty clutch well, the shift is solid but using engine breaking and brakes in corners really well is not an easy task, needs concentration. I did a quick launch and smoked up the clutch which i regreted and wont do again. I also hit the rev limiter for the first time in first as I was to slow to change gear, I thought the motor had blown as it went bang and lost power for a split second. So I learned a few things and when I got home my edren was pumping and had to have a arvo nap to regain my energy
I look forward to doing my first track day

I normally hate snow, but now that I have my Evo I look forward to it.
That's an awesome story and one that is repeated by many people with Evos. I was visiting a friend yesterday and he said that his wife still talks about the day that I took them out in mine which was six months ago. I went for a mountain run yesterday and it was a blast and yes it defies logic.

Ya stay away from hard launchs on upgraded cluth there not very forgiving puts a lot of strain on all of driveline when doin that and won't last.. But awsome story love when people doubt a Evo the go for a ride in one.

hahahaha nice
My buddy finally saw where my redline was once and he said "Holy ****, I always thought you short shifted it" (in first and second gear).. nah, that's how fast it gets to redline lol
