EVO 8 Windshield Replacement

I've heard that the EVO windshield is different than a regular Lancer windshield. Lighter?

Wondering if this is true? Is there any place that sells the special windshield or are the aftermarket ones all the same? I saw you can order one from the dealership for a lot of money.

My windshield is cracked and I need a new one. If you've replaced your windshield I'd appreciate any help from your experience.

Yes its lighter but it cost like 700 for the windshield unless you have full cover and cover glass then the regular windshield will work for. I used a regular lancer windshield with the top pre tinted

when I used safelite they didn't even have an option for an evo online. When I set up the appt. I used 2003 Lancer to replace my 2006 evo 9 windshield. it was like 300 bucks installed if you didn't have insurance coverage.

Tell your insurance you want OEM replacement glass. If they give you a hard time, tell them your car is rare and that you keep it in original condition to maintain its value.

I paid full price at the dealer to get the Evo windshield when I cracked mine. I believe it was $730ish vs. regular Lancer one at a much lower price. I highly doubt you will ever notice a difference in the two

The evo glass is a grand total of 3 lbs lighter than the lancer glass and a good deal more expensive. The only fitment issue is that the button the rear view attaches to is different for a lancer than it is for an evo. But if you aren't the one doing the work this isn't really an issue, just have the shop swap the buttons so you can fit the rear view back on.

3lbs. is not insubstantial. Some people spend a lot of money trying to make their evo lighter.

True but way I see it if I'm worried about the last 3 lbs I can lose it myself for a lot less than 400-500. And the people who are willing to cut it from the glass prolly aren't worried about the price. Personally I'm going to get the Evo glass when I replace mine cuz that's the part that "should be there" but for people looking to save money the lancer glass will work.
