2003 Evo 8 build
Hey all, my name is Derek and I have been an active lurker on the forums for a little over a year now. I have gathered a lot of knowledge from here and now I feel it is time to give back. For all not wanting to read a long story, I will try and make this as brief as possible, otherwise, feel free to skip immediately to the mod list. Back in January of 2014, I made a decision to buy an 03 evo 8. Starting out, it had 82k miles, a folder full of receipt for a built head, but other than that, it was stock. I flew out to Denver to get it, drove it home all in about a 13 hour period. I found the guy on these forums who sold me the car, and about two weeks later, I started seeing a lot of parts pop up for sale, namely the parts that I had a folder full of receipts for. It immediately became evident that this guy had not been %100 honest with me on this car, but unfortunately you live and you learn. I daily drove while waiting for a tune for a few months, and about 3 days before my scheduled run with tcomp, my motor spun one rod bearing, and the mains were not far behind, a picture of said rod bearing will be included. So end of june, cars in the shop, and its time to tear everything apart. We got lucky with the motor, stock bore was able to be retained, in fact, scoring on the cylinder walls was nearly non existent. So than the process begins of ordering parts, pulling the motor, waiting, waiting, and more waiting. Credit for the motor build goes entirely to a local guy. He is responsible for one of the faster evo builds in the Sioux Falls, and knows these cars inside and out, without his help it is highly likely this would have been just one more blown up evo on craigslist. As we sit right now, motors in the car, and it should be ready for break in by as early as next week. Even after the issues, ive been partial to this car since day one and even after spending enough to shave a nice chunk off my mortgage, I still there is nothing that could make me sell this car. Enough story telling, onto the good stuff, im sure ill be missing a few things.

more pretty motor pictures, and than up to speed where we are now, ill do my best to keep this thread up to date with numbers to come. Again huge thanks to my builder max who also deserves photo cred for some of the pictures, rosies raceland in rock rapids for doing the machine work, and chris with MAP for hooking up great deals on parts for this build.

Hey guys, just a couple updates for those of you who are following. When I bought the car, it came with a seibon cf hood, it wasn't in the greatest shape. Well after a year and a half, and two hail storms, I think it's ready to be retired, yesterday Ifinally received an apex silver hood from a member on the forums, it's in excellent shape, pictures to follow. I am also in the process of picking up a set of wheels. This is all for now,the little odds and ends at the end of a build seem to drag on forever, will be happy to get it back on the road

It is stock route yes, imo it looks amazing. As far as the work, I helped disassemble and clean the transfer case, trans, pull the motor and drop it back In the car, ect. Credit for the motor build goes to a local guy named max (not sure if he want his last name on here). He has built a few evos locally, one of which was his own, which is the fastest one around here that I know of to date. Very intelligent guy
