Well?
There is nothing I hate more than posts that say "I have this or that or can get this or that if you want me to."
Of course we want you to!!! Just post it first and spare us the suspense. Only about 1% of the people actually deliver.

Helps to have a video card with a video in and some RCA or S Video cable.
...Or you can put the tape in the VCR and throw it really hard at the computer. ...No wait. Don't do that. I just found out it doesn't work.

A little OT, my g/f boss started a company that have a program that "transform" video to digital file. And you can use your PC as a VCR to set program recording...neat
I have the same questions, how to convert VHS into digital format on a budget?

1. VCR, digital video camera, fire wire (IEEE 1394), fire wire card (IEEE 1394), video editing software.
2. a video card with RCA IN
3. a VCR with S-Video OUT and a video card with S-Video IN
4. mail it to someone and have them do it for you.
5. take it to a place that converts old home movies to DVD to have your VHS put on DVD then rip the DVD into divx with software. none of these options sound good i know. thats why i bought a digital video camera with IEEE 1394 connections that plug right in to my computer. a lot easier.
good luck on getting the video and considering your circumstances i wont hold my breath for the video cuz i know its gonna take some work on your part.

none of her options will be cheap. digital video is expensive, not too mention you bteer have a good computer too, as it eats resources like a **** when compressing and compiling.

as for the programs that work to record programs and such, any ATI card with video in capabilities (all in wonder, tv wonder), have a program that lets your computer download program lsitings for every week, and record programs right off the list, or while watching. you can do all the tivo type stuff, like pause live tv, and have it record your favorites... once you have a tv enabled card, its not too difficult to find software to do that stuff..
as for converting, you can buy a tv tuner / capture card for around 30-40 bucks off e-bay, and that will work for converting vhs into digital. if you'll never convert vhs to digital again, i recommend you just get someone to do it that does... if you want, mail me a copy of the video, I'll convert it and post it.
