DIY HVAC vacuum pump rental, refrigerant+oil volumes

Has anyone Rented a vacuum pump and successfully re-filled their own system?

I'm looking for the following information.

Where, (ie. Autozone)?
How much $ to rent?
Basic procedure?
How much oil/ refrigerant balance?

Thanks!

Never heard of renting this equipment, if you were local to me I'd help you out. You'll need gauges with r134 hoses or adapters and a Vacuum gauge as well. What type of repair are you doing?

I pulled out the condenser core while preforming the dreaded early evo blender box door TSB. below. Now I need to vac the system, calculate oil/refrigerant volume, recharge and check the air gap on the compressor clutch. I found the basic info I need, now just looking for any tips or wisdom from anyone who has done this before.

Autozone allegedly rents the equipment.

Are you sure you didn't remove the evaporator ? That's the coil inside the cabin. Condensor is against your radiator. Basically you add the oil specified, best place would be the compressor, but you could hand pump into the suction line if you had to. Then pull a Vacuum below 500 micron, break the vacuum with r134a up to 0PSIG, pull another vacuum below 500 micron, then charge with r134a, you can weigh the charge in, or charge low and bump it up based on superheated / suction pressure while it's running.

Most of the oil is still in the compressor, that's why you only need to add what's specified for the removed component. The total charge weight should be listed on a sticker under the hood, probably somewhere around 1lb.
