Timing Belt condition after 10 years

So i decided it was finally time for the first timing belt change after 10 years and 56k miles.

For those of you wondering whether you should change your belt before 60k, do it. The timing belt was brittle and "dry." The balance shaft belt looked like it could have let go anytime. And the waterpump actually developed a small leak which I did not notice until the pump was off the car.

Change your belts and pumps kids.

I've been preaching here concerning getting older low mileage cars in for belt changes. It is good to see what I have been writing is not foolishness.

Thanks for this, now I have to schedule an appointment to get this done... My car only has 42k on it right now.

Where do you live btw? Wondering if the Northeast would be harsher on the belt?

My stomach hurts now.

I do not think it matters where you live or how you drive. Time will take its toll either way. Even if a car sits in a garage for 10 years.

I would imagine even a car with 100 miles on it and 10 years old would have a janky looking belt. Dry rot is going to happen no matter what.

And Daily Driver back ups FTW, I put 2000 miles on my car this year. Everyone gives me **** for "Not enjoying" my car but those 2000 miles were more fun than the 15,000 I put on my truck.

A friend who did my timing belt said no matter how perfect it looks, just look at the belt and look for if its glazing. I asked how much glaze is bad....he said use common sense....I agreed. The moral should be respect under bonnet temps. thanks for the pics.

I am a bit worried for my belt. The plastic belt cover was touching the timing belt and left a little bit of an burnt indent on the belt. Its not that deep but I will probably replace them when I put S2's on the car.

Previous owner put on a new belt a few month before I owned it so its a fairly new belt but I will end up still doing it to make sure.
