Still waiting to hear back. Its been at the shop for two days. Should hear something soon.

Some lady hit me while I was at a stop sign. She has state farm, I called my insurance to see if i could figure out what my car is worth. They said they use JD power and associates site to find the same car around my area. Well there is not one evo 8 listed on that site. So well just have to see what they say. Knowing insurance company's there going to low ball me if they do total it.

Cool. Get it fixed at a shop YOU choose. I almost always try to avoid insurance company "preferred" shops. Preferred means discounts for the insurance company, has nothing to do with quality of work.

Find out what shop the local porsche dealer/club uses and use them. Those guys really give a **** about the quality of their work because their clients wont accept any bull****.

keep a real close eye on the car now, get on the repairers case without being rude....make sure its not left outside in the rain. All repairers bid to get the repair then they save money on short cutting and most people just leave it with them to do what they do.

I was thinking about buying a nice shell and swaping the motor and trans. Then ill have a a evo and a parts car. Question tho, I have a 05 with acd will the motor, trans and transpher case work in a 03? Have a nice shell I was looking at but its an 03. Then doing some motor work while its out.

An 03 shell will work. Although its way more work to transfer all the parts from your Evo versuses just repairing the radiator support.

Also, in reparing your car, you can upgrade. Factory intercooler and piping is more expensive than aftermarket parts, Aftermarket hood and fenders are less money than OEM as well. If you buy carbon fiber parts, you'll also save money on paint/bodywork.


You could fix this car and easily end up with some upgraded parts and cash in your pocket if you do it right.

Pouring money into a salvage titled Evo doesn't make much sense to me. I would take the $12k, part out (or sell as is) the car, and buy a clean title IX.

The car isn't savage titled. Repairs are $12,500, insurance is fixing it, not totaling it.

In many states a vehicle with sufficient damage that would typically cost between 75% and 100% of its value to be repaired gets a branded/salvage title. I would hate to think that car retains a "clean" title after that. Buyer beware I guess.

Why? You don't know how bad the frame damage is (or isn't) just from that picture. And all of that can be replaced to factory spec if a good shop is used. Cool thing about modern cars is they kind of need to be fixed right, or body panels don't line up and it becomes glaringly obvious that something was half assed.

Cars that have been in accidents have a lower resale value. So no matter how much insurance spends on making it "like new", the cars value takes a hit. Plus, body shops often find more wrong with the car once they start making repairs. So that $12K number will likely go up.

If OP plans on keeping the car forever, then sure get it fixed. But if it were my car, I would be looking to walk away from it and start fresh with an accident free (matching body panel) car.

Also, unless they are going to repaint the whole car, good luck getting your new paint to match the old.
