I think option 2 actually looks like it would net the best results. It even states that its the method for obtaining max boost pressure. The reason you recirc a 3-port is because normally people aren't working with an external waste gate with this kind of configuration.

The way i see it working is, they both have pressure applied to the other side of the diaphragm (to help keep it closed), but in option 1 you have a tee connector with a hole in it to bleed off pressure when you want to transition to opening the waste gate, and option 2 completely stops sending pressure to that opposite side.So because you are never sending pressure to both sides of the diaphragm at once I would expect option 2 to react faster and thus provide better fine control of the boost level. Also because option 2 doesn't bleed off as much air i would expect you to gain the benefits of putting pressure on that diaphragm at lower boost levels then you would in option 1.
Disclaimer: This is all just how i think it will work based on the diagrams. How the thing actually performs in real life could be much different.

it may be the top one. i remember, when i used my TS WG, it uses signal from the turbo to open the diaphragm. that comes from signal to the bottom port (i think there is an arrow indicating pressure movement). that's the setup i used for my MBC. i think i also remember when using my EBC it tapped into the line from the top.
from what i'm seeing here, because i can't remember (it's been years), the solenoid is using a boost signal for the top to cancel out the signal from the bottom in order to keep the diaphragm from moving and the WG opening. the solenoid leaks signal (from the top) to atmosphere, as needed, to allow the diaphragm to move and open the WG.
the pics of the MBC setup is what jogged my memory a bit. i believe you want to use the top configuration.
if i'm remembering right, then the bottom setup will put pressure to the top, which keeps it closed. that's good, but the solenoid would be working really hard to get enough pressure to the bottom of the diaphragm so it can open.
