Evo wing removal

I searched the forums and found some threads but I wanted to make a new one with pictures and updates.

Going with a Rexspeed Type D carbon trunk wing.

Now for the brain buster....

Ive seen people put plastic caps to cover the holes but they aren't flush with the trunk and look kind of tacky.

What is the best option? buy a carbon trunk and forget it

Those plastic caps can be color matched at best to fit your car, but they are the cheapest route to keeping rain and bugs out of the trunk of your car. A decent body shop should be able to fill, sand down, and color match the holes. That route will cost you much more.

If you're lucky, you might find someone with an RS trunk that might be willing to trade for your winged trunk. This way you can start with no holes.

If you have a red or white car get an RS trunk. Any other color, just get a carbon trunk and keep your stock trunk/wing in case you ever want to go back to the wing.

I have it in black. Its a shaved keyless trunk and the holes were filled (not perfectly though). But I'm also in Chicago and will not ship

I just used a sheet of adhesive vinyl the same color as my car and cut out circles to cover the holes. Not a perfect match to AS but close enough to where you can't tell until you're right next to the car. Definitely cheaper, and looks better than the plugs too

Can't you just go to the junkyard, get a Lancer trunk, and paint it?

If you go with D just put anything to cover the holes. Unless D is in the future . I used plastic caps from autozone and it looked decent.shop I found did weld the holes shut and repainted .

You can find them in salvage yards http://www.car-part.com/
But by the time you buy/ship and RS trunk and have it painted GG, you will have spent more than a carbon trunk.

You could also take off your spoiler and have your trunk vinyl wrapped.

I found a yellow 2003 OZ trunk. Its local so no shipping it would cost over 900$ you think for repainting ? they want 190$ for the trunk and Im not sure if its damaged. I havent called either just have been looking.

So I found a maroon trunk off a 2002 lancer. But the lady said there is two hours worth of damage on the right corner. And she said that means it would take a professional shop two hours to repair the damage. they only want 125$ for it. Worth it or not? or should I just quit being a chump and get a carbon trunk?

Just keep your OEM trunk and wing. You know the Evo wing is functional right?
