Want to change motor oil!

Hey guys I own a Evo 9, it's built to the T! Car recently made 734who on a mustang dyno. I'm using e85 fuel. I've been using amsoil 15w-50 dominator oil. It's awesome, but it's a pain in the *** to get. I was using Brad penn prior due to the fact that it's easier to get. Further research showed that oil (Brad penn ) doesn't work well with e85 over a long period of time. Anyways I've done more research about shell rotella t6 5w-40. I used it in my drag Sti and it never burned oil, and if a suby motor isn't eating that oil nothing can lol. But I'm wondering who uses that oil on their high hp built evos? Do you burn more oil? Etc etc. and it isn't about money just want to know cause it's easier to get at Walmart!

Usually you would want to run a heavier weight oil on a built motor (depending on clearances). I personally run Amsoil Zrod 20W-50 and haven't had any issues, I don't find it hard to get though..

Hmm. So I'm using Brad Penn on an E85 only car. I'll have to do some research. Thanks for posting that point

I run the Shell Rotella T6.

Its cheap, and you can buy them at Walmart for $21 for a 4 quart jug and additional $7 1 quart bottle.

I've be running it on my rebuilt block for about 25k miles now no issues.

No reason to run such an expensive oil if you are just driving it spiritually on the roads. I can see if you bring it out on the track but not DD'ing.

Aren't they $10-13 a quart?

Im just running a tuned stock motor so oil choices are pretty simple

You guys w/built motors really should be doing a UOA periodically. Knowing those details should eliminate opinion

On a serious note, if you really like Amsoil, I'd recommend becoming a preferred customer and order online. You get a discount on oil and it gets shipped to your door. Disclaimer: I'm not a dealer for Amsoil, just a fan of their products.

I'm not sure why everyone acts like nobody can really push a car on the street. Not that I'm condoning it but I know people that use a VBox and literally time trial on deserted back roads pushing their cars all out for extended periods of time just like they would on a track. Maybe not for 20 or 30 minutes at a time but much much more than an autocross race.

Wish you could do that around here.
Around here you would end up in a ditch, with a hefty traffic ticket, or in the back of someone

I use Castrol GTX 10w-30 fully synthetic and pretty much always have and have never had issues. I change my oil every 3k regardless of fully synthetic or not. Owned my B5 S4 for 5 years, 45k miles (sold it around 125k), and that thing got beat on and daily driven. Needed suspension parts and/or various sensors replaced more than it ever needed engine components replaced. Both of my cars have also only been full bolt-on, so I can't give advice to y'all with built engines.

valvoline vr1 20w50 is E85 safe and has been used for a long time now with great success. Look into that as a potential replacement.
