Front crossmember recall question

Has anyone had the service carried out yet? How did you go about getting done if so?

Also, I wanted to install a front Sway bar during cross member replacement, you think it's possible That the dealer would install it for me ( if I paid them obviously ).

You get the recall done by making an appointment after receiving a notice by mail.

You need to find out if you are even going to get a cross member replacement. There has to be full perforation (rust holes through it) for replacement. Being "rusty" alone won't qualify.

If you do qualify, be aware that there is a shortage of cross members available currently (why your notice you received said that you would be notified again when parts are readily available)... unless your qualifying failure appears to be unsafe to drive, you will likely need to wait until there is full availability. They are saving the few that are available for the vehicles that are categorically unsafe right now.

That all said... a nice dealer should have no problem installing a stock-fitting sway bar for you while the cross member is being replaced for no charge since it is coming off anyway. If it is a major deviation from stock (way over sized requiring custom brackets etc) they may decline though.

The recall pertains to cars in or from the salt belt. If that is your car and you haven't received notice you need to contact Mitsubishi.

To date, you are wrong. You have to have been registered in a salt belt state at some point. It doesn't have to be there now, but if it was registered for example in NY in the past and has since been moved elsewhere, it would still qualify.

It may expand, but I wouldn't hold your breath just yet. Especially with the recall being new. Expansions are usually 6-12 months down the road, they don't normally release recalls and expand them 6 weeks later, its incompetent behavior and wouldn't reflect well.
