Real Worried. Grinding Metal?

Alright, this has happened about 4 times now. I used to think it was my brakes and I was braking hard or something. Roommate never heard it specifically but he thought warped rotor then thought rust in the brakes.

But anyway. Driving down the road (seems to happen after I wash the car and let it sit, or whne it is pouring out.) and when I start from a stop all of a sudden I hear this loud screech like metal againsgt metal or like a saw cutting metal. I tried hitting my brakes hard, nothing. I slow down and stop it goes away, I slowly strart back up, and right when my clutch engages it screams again. After I drove for like 5 or so mins it went away.... What is it you think? Didn't really wanna show up at my dealership modded right now.

Tim.

When you are rolling and in gear, does it make the sound? When you are hearing the sound, does it disappear when you push the clutch in?

If the sound does not disappear when you clutch in, I would suspect a wheel bearing.

My TC was already replaced once by the dealer. After they almost didn't cover it...I don't think it is my TC cause this is like Metal grinding sounds tc was like a crank slipping/Thunking sounds.

mine doesn't grind until you take it out of gear, it does whine while in gear though.

This only happens when it rains right? If so it just sounds like really bad brake noise. I can't image how your car being wet would affect the tranny.

I know what that noise is!! LOL....Behind your brakes there are shields that are supposed to protect the brakes...Im guessing. Anyway for whatever reason the might be touching the rotor. It sounds TERRIBLE. All you have to do turn the wheel out so you can reach behind the wheel and just pull the cover away from it. It's not hard, just don't rip the thing off! Hope that helps

I've already done the front wheel bearings on my car and from what I've been reading on here, it's a fairly common problem. I suspect it's an improper press from the factory, but my car's modded to the point where I don't even feel comfortable driving past the dealer, much less having them touch my car.

By "reading on here", I mean vibration right before the car comes to a stop, which is what I was experiencing. New wheel bearings and life is good again. I think they were 100 a piece, FWIW.

It may be as simple as the brake pad wear indicators sounding off. Then it is just time to replace the pads and resurface the rotors.

How many miles are on the car and how hard are you on the brakes?
