MIVEC Cam Gear

Been battling some weird issues with my car. Every time I thought I figured it out I end up being in the same place as I was.

Anyways since I've been able to rule out quite a few things I'm narrowing the possibilities.

The whole point of this thread is actually to see if anyone had experience or knew some who experienced this Cam gear failing.

If so what were the symptoms?

Also is it something that is repairable?

It's unfortunate I didn't want to even think this Cam gear could be my issue since I had it replaced with a brand new one about 2 years ago. After some recent head work I'm getting the ****ty P0011 code and my car runs like ****.

Last question, is there a way of logging mivec using evoscan to determine if it's faulty?

Thank you. As soon as I get my car running I will stop making new threads.

mivec failure

I had a mivec gear fail. I was at Shootout and just replaced plugs because it was running bad. I replaced plugs and had hood still up. Idle was good so I revved it up. Person walking by screamed shut it down!! Oil everywhere. One of the screws backed out and was caught by timing belt and cracked my valve cover. Towed to Dan Buschur and a new gear installed and timing belt.

For what it's worth, I had a phantom p0011 code which after much "wtf"ing, I realized I had switched two connectors that are exactly the same and somewhat nearby. This may not be your issue being that my car never ran poorly, but a possibility nonetheless.

Which connector was switched? Yeah I wish my code is phantom code, idle is very poor and I rather not drive it until I figure it out. I want to say the mivec cam is stuck in full advanced. My car does idle better when its warm, but getting there sounds bad. This is on e85 too

I hope someone can help with your issue. Seems like the evo can get a lot of misfire issues for all kinds of reasons. Mines is still a mystery. I've eliminated injectors, coil packs, spark plug gap, turbo, compression, and weather.

Thanks man. I updated the issue in my original thread. I was right about it being mivec related but it ended up being the solenoid. Some things still don't add up, but my car idles much better now. Been taking it easy driving it around, just waiting on a new tune when I have a chance. I'm glad it wasn't the mivec gear, I nearly got ripped off from buying a "new" one for $250 then showed up used with a crack.

Damn it showed up cracked? People these days will try to rip anyone off every time they get a chance. I'll check my solenoid today.
