Need ideas to pass inspection

Hey guys, just bought an EVO 8 and need to get it pass inspection. Car has a Megan O2 housing and a magnaflow titanium exhaust. I need to get a catalytic converter on there somewhere.

I had an EVO 10 and I'm not familiar with 8/9's. Maybe cut and weld a cat into the downpipe? I don't want to hack up the exhaust because it's titanium. Maybe find a cheap aftermarket catback and weld a cat in that?

What is my best option?

Usually the downpipe and cat are two pieces, sometimes the downpipe comes as 1 piece that deletes the cat, Just get a stock downpipe and throw the cat on there its all bolt on. I passed smog with megan o2, stock downpipe, high flow cat, and HKS exhaust

Nice thanks. Is the downpipe easy to get at? It was a huge pita on the 10.

I've heard a bit of the horror stories for the X downpipe, but the 8/9 one is pretty easy.

This should take care of the “visual” . Are you sure the test pipe is titanium as well ? You can probably modify the below to be a bolt on and swap out temporarily. Another option is hack up the below cat shield and clamp it over the test pipe temporarily or fix it on permanently .

Probably a stupid question but how do you bolt the straight pipe above to your down pipe and catback?

Found this yesterday after I posted, just came here to post the same thing. I'm either going to buy that or just weld a heat shield around the exhaust.

Don't think you can, would have to weld it.

you know you are in a state with inspection. you should get an oem full exhaust for swap out. look through FS, ebay, craigslist, im sure someone has an old exhaust to sell you.

They only do a visual inspection, look for a cat, no need for the oem.

then get a cat lol. but if you have a full turboback you will unfortunately have to buy an exhaust that allows swapping. i know weapon r sells a test pipe with a heat shield welded on.

here in VA they are moving to infrared sensors on the side of the road, measuring ACTUAL emissions. right now it's voluntary... who knows for how long.
