Mitsubishi left a socket in my engine from the assembly line

It is ****ty they are not taking 100% responsibility here. My buddy bought a 2nd hand - out of warranty - Porsche Cayenne and within 3 months the engine blew up. Porsche looked at it and determined it was a factory defect and replaced the entire motor, paid for a rental and gave him 2 years warranty on the motor. He did not have to pay a god damn cent. Most importantly they did all of this without him having to argue with them and escalate. Leaving a tool in the engine is worse than a manufacturing defect in my mind, Mitsubishi should be ashamed.

Not even 24 hours and I get a call from a different Mitsubishi rep. who tried to reach me at 7:32 am (Pacific).
Just called them back and they're now willing to take on the diagnostic fee! (we did it!)
If the diagnostic comes back with damage <b>related to the socket</b> then I have to relinquish the socket (aww, no souvenir) and damaged components to be sent back to corporate.
If no damage, or damage is unrelated to the socket then case closed! And that's all I was hoping for, especially if the noise is just what I suspected as lifter-tick.
Although I already put in an order for a replacement valve spring assembly and seal... I guess I'll hang onto it until after the dealership techs get a look at it.
The rest of this story might be boring, but I'll try to keep it up to date, and at least with a conclusion to the story!

Congrats on winning the war with Mitsu regarding this issue. I'am very surprised that out of the 1000 things that could have gone wrong with that socket in the cylinder head, nothing catastrophic happened to your engine. You would think it would lodge itself up against the side of the spring and cylinder head cast aluminum wall and break through. Or slowly grind down the casting in that one spot next to the valve spring. The aluminum cast filings would then make their way down into your oil pan and get filtered out by the oil filter (if that were to happen).

A few things
1) does it actually fit the size of any of the hardware in the head?
2) Mits is going to verify internally with their factories if its a part which they use on the assembly line. They order custom tools through professional manufacturers.
3) One thing I find strange is usually, the sockets are roll pinned, they don't come off for this reason
