evo vs. sti
A very well respected sti/evo friend (has owned both cars) is trying to steer me away from a new evo because of the tranny problems. He is not partial to either car. Is this a legit concern and should it be a consideration in my purchase?

Please by all means do a search! This topic has been debated over and over again. Your just beating a dead chicken posting this again.
Tranny problems, what are you talking about? When you abuse any car there will be problems, like the clutch, tranny, diffs... etc. Comon now.
EVO= a more race car like, handling beast, stiff suspension
STI= really more of a everyday car, family car.
This is what I have heard from people who own BOTH the evo and sti.
There is no problems, the problems are the drivers! (maybe a few defects but thats with any car)

I'd say yes, but then again I may have a biased opinion. My transfer case is shot at 11K miles, my clutch went at 9K and my starter froze up last weekend. The transfer case is a known problem with these cars, and Mitsu is aware of it. It looks like a manufacturing flaw at this point.

i personally heard that the STi had far more tranny problems than the evo.... But i dunno... I honestly love the looks of a Black STi on the gold stock rims... saw one this weekend and questioned the purchase on my Tame looking in comparison Evo.... But honestly i love my evo and wouldnt trade it for anything. But i suggest in either car you expect to do a clutch anywhere from 6,000-20,000 miles...... My Clutch will be going soon i already know this. Basically the 2 companies are putting a ****ty clutch in near 300hp cars. Bad idea..... btw im at 11,xxx miles and have drove my car hard.......

Also, people here are sensitive about the EVO, they don't like hearing about TC's blowing and clutches going, when they do, they blame it on abuse by the operator, they can't handle the fact that the EVO has inherant design flaws^^^^^^^^^^^^, but he is right, this topic has been hashed over a few times, if you do a search you'll find plenty of info.

Only people here complain about the transmission problems(not including clutch), but no one overseas complains about the transmissions.
It's the same tranny that has been on every previous Evo!!!
It's no weak tranny by any means!

once again the people who skim the posts make themselves look foolish. the transfer case in our cars are not the same used over seas, and the JDM evo 8's have 6 speed trannys now ans center diffs
