This **** makes me sick. Why do people have to be like this. It's because of **** like this a damn coffe cup has to say "extremely hot" on the side of it. You didn't know it was hot?

Isn't our drivline the same as what the non SAYC and ACD evo 7's had? I thought I remember reading that some were. If that is correct I think that would address the testing issue.

I, much like everyone else, don't see why this is so hard to understand??? I had this happen on my Talon a couple years ago. Still had warranty on the car when my TC gave up. I took it in just to see what they would say. But, when they saw I had an ACT 2600 in it, they were sure that was the cause and I was out of luck. I knew it even before I took it in, but never hurts to ask. Its the same with the Evo. On an AWD car, there is lots of grip to deal with in the drivetrain when accelerating. If you can't spin the tires, the clutch comes next. If that doesn't slip, then next in line is the TC, followed by the diffs. I've had the TC go, as well as the rear stock LSD. But, I knew going in that I was causing them. Big clutch in an AWD car causes all sorts of mess to the drivetrain. Thats all part of going fast with them.

People, the Evo isn't that much different than the DSM's when you get down to it. They're great cars when stock, or very mild mods like intake and exhaust. Thats how they're built, they work good that way. Sure, there are some clutches and TCs failing somewhat early. That stuff happens with cars all the time. My GF's trans in her Denali gave out at like 2k. Shocking, but oh well. Cars aren't perfect. But, when you start adding stuff onto these cars or any car to go faster, stuff will start breaking with much greater regularity. I'm not sticking up for anyone on here, I don't know how cars were driven, or what the actual cause of parts breaking was. I'm just speaking from my knowledge of the many Mitsu AWD cars that I've owned. They work great if left stock. But, when you start modding them more than simple intake and exhaust type things, the drivetrains will just laugh at you, spit parts out, and then die.

We have an on going poll as a sticky at the top of this forum. The number of owners reporting their TC has been replaced is 12. After one month and 1700 views, TC failure does not appear to be a widespread issue... yet.

There's some room in the midde on this one. Yeah, you broke your TC and have some mods that might have contributed. On the other hand Mitsu knows about some TC issues. Try going to the service manager and/or zone rep and cut a deal. You'll pick up the labor and they supply a new case. Be willing to compromise a little. Be pleasant and give them a reason to give you a break.

I am going to stop commenting on these warrenty issues as they just make me upset and not want my dream car.
If you mod your car then yes warrenty work should be at a min to what you didnt' mod. But if you mod nothing they should pay. Do I go on about driver abuse and not knowing how to drive a car. what is the correct way to drive a car as I am sure not everyone on here is a pro( get paid to drive) what consituties (spelling) abuse. you play you pay, but if you buy a car and use it like you would regular car and stuff breaks..... that is what a warrnety is for and untill mitsu steps up and gives us somethign I think we are going to have this agrument over ever little thread that pops up..... It really sucks to see this and yes I do know the squeaky wheel gets the oil and the attention but three seems to be lots wrong with this inital release of a legandary car.

edited for spelling issues I have

Guys-
Not to stick my head into this argument, but I figured I would have to respond because of personal experience. I have worked at DOT for a year and a half as an engineer and now (2.5 years later), I work as a patent attorney. Mitsubishi cannot refuse to do warranty work on you're evolution because of the clutch that was installed. Mitsubishi will avoid fixing you're car at any cost because of the expense in doing so. If they refuse to fix your car, you may want to call up a lawyer (yellow pages), and discuss the issue. I assure you that it will be cheaper to sue than it would be to pay to fix you're car. Not only that, Mitsubishi will most likely fix you're car as a settlement instead of going to court.
I read something about people saying that the transfer case is not a major problem, and that the DOT has not done anything about it. I must assure you that the DOT WILL do something about it if and only if injuries are occuring from the problem. Also, the DOT does not work overnight and you can expect at least a year lag time before they have a response. This is the case even for grave situations like the Ford Explorer with the Firestone tires. (I worked on that case as an engineer with DOT).

Also, just to clarify. Mitsubishi CAN refuse the work if and only if they determine the clutch or any other modification to be the culprit for the TC problem. For example, as said above, they CAN and WILL void a powertrain warranty for a boost controller set to operate the turbocharger at higher than stock boost levels, but CANNOT refuse the work if the boost controller is set to run at OEM boost levels.

If it has a defect in it, It will eventually fail... Stock or modified... a defective part will break either sooner or later....

And doesn't matter if it has low miles or not... If you have a warr they have to replace it...... There are laws out there that are their to protect you.... Just get your lawyer and you will have a new TC.... They have to PROVE with FACTS that the specific part failed because of the new part you installed in order to deny your claim.,..... and if they can't they must give you the new part.... BOTTOM LINE..............
NO NO NO. that is not what the law says. find a friend of your dad's maybe, or someone who has access to lexis-nexis.com and look yourself. That is not the federal law NOR is it the state law in New York.

They are jackasses, I couldn't agree with you more. The transfer cases fail at an unbelievable rate due to a manufacture's defect, ie; gears are shimmed improperly, they aren't all like this, but too many are.. They continue to deny because they can't fathom the mighty EVO as having any faults. Dick heads.... please, you think that a transfer case shouldn't be able to handle a new clutch designed to work in conjustion with that specific drive train, give me a break, and wake up.

For all you idiots that think that it was his fault that the transfer case broke need to do some research before talking out of you pie holes........ There is a Major Problem with the transfer cases... there have been numerous TC that have failed while leaving the dealership.... NO mods... just purly stock..... Mits. knows that there is a problem that is why Most dealers just replace them... Myself, I have had mine fail while being STOCK!!!!!!!!(as in absolutly NO MODS).....I doubt that him changing the clutch made this go.... IT is a defect from the factory..... So do research before making assinine statements saying that he was the cause of it......... I hope it doesn't happen to your EVO's...

You guys all need to chill the hell out or the Mods will shut this thread down. Grod you keep flaming up like that and you'll be off this board. Learn to get your point across without calling names and play nice.
P.S. not all Evo 7's have SAYC & ACD.

Ducaticourse and Grod101 you are both banned from this thread. We ask you to argue you points without name calling and flaming which you declined to do. For the rest, please continue your discussion. Thanks.

I failed to mention one last thing when I mentioned the suing before. You can also choose to take mitsubishi to small claims court. It is very cheap to do (ranges from $10-$40), and no lawyer is even required. You can call up the local town court in you're area for information if you choose. Also, I wouldnt neccessarily go the lawsuit route right away. It may be beneficial to simply take the car to one or two more dealerships and see what they can do.
