It annoys me too, Chris. I think it's the sheer fact that many people who complain here are stepping up to their first performance car.

LOL, you guys are really quite funny.

These types of threads are pretty useless. There is such a small subset of actual evo owners that actually visit this board, much less post on it. We have no way of knowing from participation on this board the true reliability of the Evo.

I am not saying it is unreliable. Just that none of us have all the facts one way or the other. For those that have posted to this forum, the reliability percentage seems to be high. However, how many people have actually posted in all the different threads? Maybe 50-75 unique posts. That's what 1-5% of the owners out there. That's a pretty small sampling.

Another thing that amazes me is the similarity between the 350Z and Evo communities in responses to people that have issues, whether manufacturer defect or self induced. Until many have had the same problems, there seems to be a period of denial amongst the owners. I hope that won't turn out to be the case for the Evo.

I guess it all goes back to the same thing: If you don't know all the facts, your making assumptions. And well...ah, nvm.

I don't know if this post relates to what Mr. Bonus and I said or whether it's directed at the thread starter. If it's to me, I would say that my sampling is much greater than just this board and would include some of the premier tuners in the country and their collective experience/opinions. My point is that people have been looking (hoping?) to find problems with the Evos. Other that the things mentioned (clutches, transfer cases, etc.) that have problems in high HP/hard launch (ie drag racing), the Evo has been very reliable. I personally know of only two people who didn't abuse their car and still had big problems. One had their situation resolved and the other is in arbitration with Mitsubishi.

When I traded my S2000 in for the Evo, my number one concern was reliability. That is no longer my concern - now it's how to avoid the domestic-**** police in Virginia from pulling me over all the time...

I got to 10,000 miles and Mits. bought my car back do to an undiagnosable electrical problem, atleast thats what I'm calling it. Before that no problems, I've got a new Evo and no problems with it.

I posted in the "boy do I have problems" but that is only because they bought my car back. All and all I think the Evo is a great car. It has it's problems don't get me wrong but no more than any other new car IMO.

well, I understand how it can get annoying, but I'm a potential buyer as well and like some reassurance that a) my car is not going to die on me instantly and b) if it does, it will be fixed under warranty.

That being said, it does seem like the major problems are few and far between, and a lot have been on drag/street racing cars that withstand a few hard launches.

Not being a racer, and enjoying working on cars myself, I still have the EVO atop my short list. But like I said, it's reassuring to hear from the "no problems" people, b/c the "I hate Mitus" and "My Engine Exploded" people get a disproportianate amount of attention on internet boards (which is true for any car forum).

Your conclusions are sound. Especially if you can do minor work by yourself, the Evo is a piece of cake. The big problems come with big power and hard launches. Those problems can be solved too, with lots of $$$$. If you add reasonable power, the car is still very reliable. Keep in mind I drove my Evo across the country last August full of my stuff and averaging 80+ mph, A/C on, etc. Not a single problem, not a drop of oil burned, etc. And this was with my modded car...

you're so touchy dude, you really need to relax a bit you get way to upset when people post poor experiences about their evo. PS, clutch went at 9k transfer case went at 11k starter froze at 11.5k

Evidently the cars that are busting are due to lack of knowledge in driving. Well, not necessarily due to lack onf knowledge buit flat out ignorance. Yeah, I was 16 once, went through 4 tranys, 4 sets of tires in a year in my 944t. Kids will be kids.

15k moded fairly well and no problems. Why, because I don't do 6k clutch drops at every traffic light. Learn from yer mistakes young ones. Drive hard, but drive right.

Where did I say anyone who had a problem and wasn't drag racing is a liar? I am only pointing out that the majority of problems have been a result of over-doing it and really driving the car harder than is reasonable. Problems can come from a number of factors, but drag racing and high HP applications really seem to take their toll on the Evo's parts. Of course, there are some tuners out there making really large HP numbers reliably, too.

I don't get where the arrogant comment came from. I didn't say anything about myself driving better than anyone nor did I say that I am doing something special to avoid problems. I've just been pleasantly surprised that the Evo has been as reliable as my Honda. Take your own advice and relax...
