Is it worth even trying?

I dunno, I'm 19, recently married, and finding the resources for a car half the price of an EVO is difficult. The EVO or STi, for that matter, wasn't ever in my price range. Sometimes you just gotta get what you can. Only reason I got a new car is because I saw my parents constantly struggle with used cars.

my advise would be to find a dealership who is willing to take a deposit that will not markup over MSRP and leave your REFUNDABLE deposit there. then just sit and wait, this car isnt going to be released until AFTER january so you still got about 4 months to save and decide. even if the specs are released and you dont like what you see then get your money back and look towards something else. just dont make a decision now when the only spec we have are just rumors.

Type STi?
The way I see the STi is somewhat like an Integra Type R, and the current WRX as an Integra GSR. With a Type R you get that certain exclusivity that limited production can bring, must of the owners don't change much to the cars not wanting to ruin the already potent form it comes in stock. The WRX/GSR being more common will have most of the aftermaket support and will find its way into more hands. It is interesting how Subaru has to ready its special model to hopefully match the coming of Mitsubishi's regular EVO, while Mitusbishi has to come up with a cheap model to combat the WRX. Tuners usually go with the car that has the most potential and one that will end up in the most hands. If money is an issue for you (and who isn't) then go with the cheapest car you can get that has the largest following. Right now that means trying to find a used WRX. If you want a car engineered from the start to be the best without any concessions, then you want an Evolution. The tuners are already ready with parts (HKS, Trust/GReddy, Bozz, Apex'i) and it won't take them long to adjust to the VIII/American version, so there will be plenty of stuff to buy, but you'll already be one step up on the ladder anyway, such is the price of being first.

I love the war between Subaru and Mitsubishi. Personally I drive a WRX, which fit my budget and performance desire perfectly. I was planning on trading in the WRX when the STi is released, but I have enough car now to keep me smiling all day long Got the car new for $22.5, and with a TurboXS stage 2 ($1700) it makes 280+hp. However, I must say that this upgrading is very addictive. I always say "that is the last thing", but it has not been so far! IMHO the styling of the WRX looks better than the EVO (but to each his own), but I really did not buy it for the looks anyway. Going by British comparisons I beleive that the EVO will have the edge on performance, but Subaru will win out on quality/reliability. I love both cars! I was never very excited about 1/4 mi. muscle cars, but rather find my enjoyment in tearing up the twisites and the dirt. I am a fan of WRC and am so excited that these two brands are fighting for consumers. I am sure that there will be some greedy dealers who will not let either the EVO or STi go for MSRP in the beginning (the local nissan dealer has a $8,000 "market adjustment" on the 350z!).
