Bushings/ Kartboy SS Post-Install Thoughts
While I am sure there are plenty of threads regarding this topic, I thought I might add another to the list.
First and foremost, let me say, this mod should be done to every EVO.
I am a very 'green' mechanic and did this all in the parking lot of my condo complex.
I purchased the Kartboy short shifter, the 2 piece metal underhood bushings, and the poly bushings. I have never taken the console out of the car, but with the online pictures it was a cinch. The total install time took me roughly 2.5 hours, and it was actually kind of fun. It was really a no-brainer with the installation guides found here and @ evomoto.com.
The claim that the under-hood bushings make the shifts rifle bolt, is dead on accurate. There is very little play now in gear, and it slides in perfectly. The Kartboy SS is a very nice piece and shortened the throws just enough for me. The poly bushings were simple to install, and only took me an extra 15 mins when I did the SS.
I also had the stainless steel clutch line installed this morning, by mitsu, and that seals the deal. I think total, with mitsu's shop prices it came out to $285 invested. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who wishes for more precision in this gearbox. 10/10..
