hmm, as far as "abusing the warranty" goes, i think that ne1 of us, and im speakin strictly in opinion so if this doesn't apply to u then i guess im wrong, but either way if you know you were the cause of breakin somethin, ie if u were to destroy the tranny, then wouldnt you rather the warranty cover it and get it replaced rather than have it come outta yer own pocket? tho it may be wrong in that case, but i agree wit TwoMix when he states that the tranny should be built more durable unless if theyre willing to make replacements wit shiz like that... just my .02

speedlimit, im just sharing what i was told by the mechanics who fixed my car; evo and OZ has same tranny, which is one of the reasons why mitsu improved the tranny in newer (not 04) evos

now i really have nothing to gain from lying...i'm just trying to spread the truth

AFAIK the EVO and OZ have the same clutch disc not tranny (which explains why so many EVO clutches get torn up). Maybe you, or they got confused there.

then how'd my tranny crack so easily and why would they even bother to "lie" about tranny having lower gear ratios and stuff (the ratios did get lower or it feels like it...)? they also have nothing to gain from lying either...or do they?

TwoMix, you are grossly misinformed, sorry to be the bearer of bad (but true) news.

There are 04's here, there's thread about somebody who just picked up his 04 white Evo.

The mechanics who fixed your car are pretty out of touch if they really think the Evo and the OZ have the same transmission.

The Evo uses the W5M51 transmission. The OZ uses the F5M42 transmission.

Hi,

I'm not questioning you honesty or integrity. I am questioning your attention to detail.

You posted the same information last week and I responded that the transmissions were not in the same zip code. Instead of questioning me or looking up data yourself, you continue to pass along what a "mechanic" told you. One more time, the transmissions are not the same..... not even close.

As an example, the Evo has triple synchros in first and the Lancer has none. The Lancer has the Mirage transmission and the gear ratios are not the same.

Lancer
1st ... 3.583 @ 31.8 mph
2nd ... 1.947 @ 58.52 mph
3rd ... 1.379 @ 82.63 mph
4th ... 1.030 @ 110.63 mph
5th ... 0.767 @ 148.56 mph

Final Drive...3.722

EVO
os:Final Drive 4.53:1
1st Gear Ratio 2.93:1
2nd Gear Ratio 1.95:1
3rd Gear Ratio 1.41:1
4th Gear Ratio 1.03:1
5th Gear Ratio 0.72:1

Passing along such statements without verifying them yourself does affect how people judge your opinions.

Speedlimit...

i think its obvious that the dealer told this guy what he wanted to hear.

everything i've read has talked up the Evo 5-speed as being "bulletproof".

no tranny is immune to the damage of bad driving, especially the type encountered when people are learning.

closed... To stop the perpetuation of bad an incorrect info.

Evo tranny does not = Lancer OZ tranny

Your new tranny has the same gear ratios as the oem one that was in your car from stock.
