No problems with our Evolution. Well a minor one which was covered under warranty. The left headlamp started glowing pink and was replaced. Other than that... flawless performance. We're very pleased with our Mitsu.

In you guys' opinion are all the low mileage sales just people who couldn't afford it? Seems there's lots of "paying for school" and "paying for house" reasoning...some of you guys sound like strippers. (strippers are always just "working their way through college" )

Thanks for your thoughts.

You don't know how awesome I think that is that you are still clearly young at heart. Like everyone says, you're only as young as you feel/act. This clearly proves that aging and forgetting what it is to have fun don't have to go hand in hand. I hope I'm still driving an EVO when I turn 61.

Good poll...amazes me how the screwed up ones get all the press. This poll proves it, the EVO IS VERY RELIABLE and trouble free for the vast majority of owners.

What deceleration noise are you referring to?

There are so many deceleration noise posts, people with the 5th gear SES light due to the tranny harmonic thing, people who know how to drive burning out clutches, etc. There are also plenty of people selling theirs with less than 15K miles on them. (makes me wonder why) I plan on not modding the car at all and I am still scared. I don't mind a noisy AWD car at all, but want to avoid problems I don't have now with my Non Evo ride.

I want to know if people think any of this stuff will be remedied on the 04s. I test drove an 03 the other day and loved the car, but the issues scare me away. (not too mention I can't stand most of the Mitsu lineup...no offense meant to anyone)

I drive a 99 M3 right now and have never had an issue with the car. It makes me scared to give up a very reliable ride for something that seems sooner or later will have an issue. (I HATE dealerships of all kinds...never had a good one, gave up a long time ago)

Do a search for tranny noise. Tons of info on this issue.

Some say it's just the AWD drivetrain, some say that it's WAY TOO loud and is definetely an issue. Mistu seems to always say it's normal except for the select few cases where they have replaced a tranny for it.

It's basically when you let off the throttle and coast while in gear (some say from 3K to 5K RPM level) you hear noises coming from the tranny/diff/who knows.

Selling my 2001 Audi S4 tomorrow and planning to pick up an '04 blue Evo in the next few days. Been vacillaiting back and forth between the Evo and VW R 32, i.e. race car for the street vs comfortable performance car. NE one have any particular annoyances with their Evo? Thanks

No problems here at 900 miles, daily driver, car seems tight, seems as well screwed together in most areas as my Acura RSX Type S that I traded for the EVO. Also, R&T and Motor Trend Long term EVO's have had no significant problems. Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't either!

Is this the car for me?
8 miles? Unless you plan on getting a turbo timer, or don't mind waiting to let the car cool down, that could end up being a PITA. I generally avoid driving my Evo for any distances less than 15 minutes or so ... it's just too much of a hassle to let it warm up, then drive 5 minutes and then let it cool down. I use the Audis for all short trips

Have had the car for about 6 weeks now ... 4K miles .. no worries yet. Makes my A4 feel like the POS that it is, and makes the A8 feel even more refined than it really is, hehe. But for pure driving pleasure it's the Evo every time, by a wide margin.

Don't worry, 8 miles is deceptive. It takes close to 40 minutes some mornings. Plenty to get fully warmed up. I don't mind letting it cool down every time I get to where I'm going.
