What won’t void the warranty
#16
how about a grounding kit? they sell it as an accessory so as long as its the same or just about the same as theirs, how could they void it? and how can they void it for shifter bushings (the underhood ones)? they meet and exceed the manufacturers requirements and they don't really improve performance (well they do sort of)?

i just thought of two possible others: an oil catch can and a fuel pump. the catch can doesn't improve performance nor will it put the motor in any danger (plus it only helps longevity and reliatbility). and the fuel pump is the same as the underhood bushings; it meets and exceeds manufacturers requierements.

Getting sticky R compound tires will enhance the performance those wont void your warranty.

My impression is that Mitsu will void the warranty in almost ANY case. I've been having probs with a slight 3rd gear grind. After reading a million posts here, I got ideas of shifter bushings, syncromesh oil, and a ss clutch...al these ideas were immediately shot down by the dealer. My dealer has one senior technician that MUST do all Evo work, the dealership I go to seems to have a conservative senior tech. I would have to guess that your ability to get any aftermarket work done relies on the opinions of that one person. Without a doubt though, Mitsu as a company has obviously encouraged the dealerships to scare the crap out of us regarding aftermarket parts. I hate to agree, but it's been an effective way to reduce warranty repairs, I'm sure! People say that Subaru is the same, but I had a WRX prior to my EVO, and the dealer I went to would let me do any I/H/E mods, and suspension mods. They would then eliminate the warranty on that ONE part (do an intake, and you're fixing the intake only if things start to break), but not anything else. They even let me buy a few things directly through them with Suby bucks - they were really cool!!

Although this is for the Eclipse...
So judging by what they suggest with the Eclipse, you can:

Well here is what my dealer told me when i asked about installing and intake and a Metal version of the Evo BOV form Mitsu Japan.
He was very nice and said that he would void the warrenty for the part that is installed. For example if i install an intake and my gear starts grinding then he will replace the gears under warrenty. but if i install an intake and my MAF sensor blows, then i'll have to pay $$ for it. I think its a nice offer, but most mistu dealers arnt like this. I'm glad i have a good service rep.

Lots of good thoughts.
Great advice to get it in writing, But I would think you would want someone higher than the dealer to sign off on it, probably the district rep who really makes the decision on whether its a warranty item or not.
Last night I looked over the warranty booklet, and a few things stuck out, I’ll add them as I have time.

“NOTE: Aftermarket parts or accessories not supplied or approved by MMNA are NOT covered by this warranty.”
This only protects them from covering the replacement device, so if you put new seats in your EVO and one breaks, Mitsubishi is not obligated to repair that one aftermarket seat. Pretty straight forward.
