Question Best performing fog lights?

I am in need of a really good fog light for my EVO. I have to drive in the WV mountains quite often and have encountered some very "thick" fog at night/day where my stock lights did not work well at all.

It seems that in more serious fog/weather conditions that you really need a more specialized light than the fogs that are stock on the EVO. The biggest problem is that the "low" beams seemed to create too much glare and needed to be turned off to leave just the fog lights, which is not possible with the stock lighting on the EVO.

Anyone have any experience as to what is the most effective color of lights to use in this type of situation? I see that PIAA has a blue fog lamp and others are yellow… There are projector type fog lights and non-projector types... I want to make sure I get the best light that will do the job, not just look cool... In searching the posts on these forums, many of the posts discuss the cool factor of lights versus the actual function of fog lights.

Any insights as the best brand, type, color, wattage, mounting locations, etc to use for the best FUNCTIONALITY in heavy fog would be greatly appreciated.

Chris, I had the Hella projector fog and they were incredible with the widest flattest most even pattern you will ever see. They are top quality small and light (magnesium housing). They now have a HID version which would be even better (for more$$$ though!). Susquahanna Motorsports has the best prices on Hella. I live in the Colorado mountains and know what you talking about

Thanks! Those sound like what I need. I was looking at the Hella lights on-line; they seem to be a good bit cheaper than the PIAA lights. Anyone else have any insights or experiences with fog lights?

Thanks,

Chris

i had yellow fog lights on 2 of my previous cars, the evo is the first car w/ white fog lights. fwiw, i prefer the yellow. it penetrates through fog and heavy rain. i remember driving in florida and i-95 was in the process of being shut down, but i was able to maintain 50mph w/ no problem with the yellow fog lights (Catz brand). the rest of the caravan was behind me following my hazzards. but that's just my $.02

i was able to find replacement H11 yellow bulbs for about 35 shipped

Yeah, I'm not sure where auto makers get off calling white- wide dispersal lights "fog" lights....? At best they're a driving light to supplement your high beams (I guess unless you drive a Subie). Yellow will be best. for fog something with a good, wide dispersal will be good. Whereas the dark roads that your high beams have trouble penetrating will want a "pencil beam" or traditional bright white driving light.... hey, that rhymes

Your left fog is blocking the air vent for your bottom box air intake, I think. Or sucking in hot air whenever you turn that on.

Did you know that the fog lights don't work? It's best to have a low voltage, low wattage light for the fog.

You could do a search and you'll come up with why it doesn't work. I read that a long time ago.

You're just lighting up the fog more, since it's not going to penetrate that far through the fog.

you don't need low wattage light you need low intensity, which would be anything red to yellow, but you prolly don't want red cuz that will mess up a lotta colors and your eyes too, so yellow is best for fog. don't get hid fogs unless you only want them to match your headlights, hids as fog lights will mess up yer visibility even more. the brighter it is the more it will diffused refracted and reflected in rain snow and fog, which equals less visibility. i say get yellow fog bulbs plus yellow fog lamps yellow high beam bulbs and leave your hid low beams :], that way it all matches and you don't have to spend another 500 on hid fogs.
