There's a small little pipe to the right of the manifold on non-usdm models for the anti-lag system.

i thought it was some sort of air injection system to clean up the exhaust fumes...

so its the anti lag system.. is the anti lag driver controlled? and are we (USDM) missing much? how does it come from the factory like that, wouldnt it cause massive unburned fuel out the taillpipe? not really tree friendly

thanks!

It is the Secondary Air Supply System. The Non-US evos have a very, very, EXTREMELY small version of Anti-Lag. Some people say it is only active when in 5th gear at full speed for over 3 seconds, and letting the throttle out.
But others simply say the stock ECU does not really control this system, and it's only used in conjunction with aftermarket ECUs that support Anti-Lag.

Regards.

They should work just fine. You don't have to use ALS (also called bang-bang) and if you don't know what it is, it's better that you don't have it.

Looks like it's from the Dominican Republic. I doubt it is USDM.

Ya know, does that also mean an Evo7 head is different than the USDM Evo 8?

I just got a aftermarket manifold for my evo 8 and it has those provisions on it. But it came with 2 plugs that can scew into them if they are not used.

it is a air injection system thta will clean up the exhaust gas and provied SOME anti lag capabilities but not the same as a bang-bang system would. by allowing air into the manifold when off the throttle, the theroy says you should keep the turbo spinning, but in practice i dout there would be any diffrence.

i have seen an aftermarket system fitted to a Ford RS200 that was every effective, but i think that system dumped all the boost into the exhaust manifold (or at least much more then this system does) and when combined with "bang-bang" anti-lag system kill all lag! wouldn't do the turbo much good but it was effective.

thanks Chris.
