Hmmm… I wonder if we can just go by the warm viscosity # when mixing fluids. For example, if we mix two quarts of 75W-90 and one quart of 75W-80, will it equal 75W-86.67?

Thats interesting.....I have been using redline 75w90 in my tranfer case since a week after I bought the car. 12k miles later and its still good. Jeff has 32k on his and his is still fine.

Guys the TC is NOT the tranny! What is so hard to understand about that!?!?
TurboTrix is using Redline 75W-90 in their TRANSMISSION. So am I. This meets the GL-4 75W-90 requirements set out by the manual exactly.
They are NOT USING IT IN THE TRANSFER CASE.
The transfer case and the transmission both have 75W-90 pumping through them, yes. But there is a totally separate resevior and pathway for the differential in the transfer case (inside and separate from the 75W-90) that uses the SAE90 weight. The fluids do not mix.
So use Redline 75W90 in your TRANSMISSION/GEARBOX/TRANSAXLE and use OEM SAE90 in your TRANSFER CASE and REAR DIFF.
Never confuse the two (or three) again!

I'm sorry to inform you but they do use redline fluid in their TC.... and there customers TC's and yes I know there is seperate fills for the front rear and Tranny....

Any opinions on royal purple max gear sae 90 for the transfer case? It shouldn't cause any problems as it matches the factory reccommendations exactly.
Also, is a 75-90 gl5 or a sae 90 gl5 oil factory reccommended for the rear diff? The small manual that came w/the car didn't specify, it just said mitsubishi gear oil.

Here's another brilliant but probably worthless point. I am not too sure about this but....since this car was designed as a rally car and downgraded as a US version. I would think(not sure) that the fluids that are being used are specifically designed to run in these cars for maximum performance. I figure all those thousands of dollars they used researching and engineering the car, that they wouldnt want to send over a high performance vehicle that falls apart using crappy fluids. my .02. As far as mitsubishi commenting on fluids, I am not sure if we should believe even what they are saying. Afterall, arent they the ones who are voiding warranties for just entering in a scca or whatever event with a completely stock car. Their pushing you to void your warranty. I am not saying there are not better fluids out there, I am just saying its relative to what you are putting it into.

I found the pennzoil 75w-90 synthetic GL-4 gear oil (for the transaxle) but have to buy a whole case of 12 $158.00 in Los Angeles.
maybe you should ask Royal Purple how to store it.
