High Rpms..is it a bad thing?

Well I just moved, and down here its all Hiway driving. On avg, I avg 80-90mph, Now my rpms are at around 4k for LONG periods of time. I feel that im abusing the car by running at such high RPM for such a long time. Should this be a concern, or can this 4g63 beast take it... heh

Thanks

no way, that's not abuse, although I wouldn't mind a taller 5th or a 6th gear for cruising.

Nah, you're keeping the engine happy, running it the way it was designed to. Just keep changing that oil on time and you'll be fine.

4,000 RPM is nothing for this engine. Seriously. Don't worry!
Relax and enjoy your car!

I run home to see my parents occasionally, and it's about 120 miles. I usually run 85 - 120mph and I can get like 24mpg doing it even!

No problems - 14k miles.

With normal U.S, built cars with a 5500 rpm redline it would not be a good way to treat it but, this engine has a 7000 rpm redline. It wouldn't be good for it to drive a sustained 6500 for several hours though, or good for you, I'm sure you would spend the night in jail.

My 2000 Civic Si would rev at about 4500 doing 80. No biggie.

I cruze on the freeway all the time at 80+ mph. Traffic flows at that pace, so legality is not an issue.

My Turbo Timer cools me down based on how hard I drive and the duration I drive for.

High RPM's = longer time to cool = no damage.

Not a big deal. With the way the engine is desined your motor can stay happy at any rpm. The worst thing for a car is frequent start ups. Thats when most wear occurs. Delivering things in your cars will kill your motor. Stop and go driving next worst.
The worst overall would be driving without oil.
Just dont remove the rev limiter or go above red line.

Yeah the engine is kinda strung out, but that's normal for it. Make sure your oil is full and clean.

My other car, 04 accord coupe with 5 auto basically is at 2K on the freeway at 70 mph in 5th. real quiet.

Don't sweat it. I have a V6 luxury car the cruises freeway speeds around 3000-3500rpm. It has to in order to stay in an acceptable power range so it can pass, have a/c on and go up a hill without having to downshift.
