DO NOT get the impression that a radar detector will save you from tickets. It does not work that way. It is merely a radar receiver, not a cop detector. Learn to use the radar detector. Do not speed/race confidently just because you have one. Cops often have 'instant-on' radar now, so they can just beam you whenever they want, leave it off at other times, and your foot will react too late, since the radar detector will have received it the moment you just got clocked.

With that said...if a detector picks-up the signal of an instant on radar, which is trained on another car, there might be sufficient reaction time to slow down.
btw...there are a few new things out there....
In June 2004 the Spectre III was undergoing final testing with the Texas Dept of Public Safety. This devise is a radar detector detector. Also, being tested are radar drones, which are simple devices that mimic instant on radar. The idea being...place a bunch of these drones along the roads and radar detectors will not be able to discern a true (i.e. cop) signal from a drone.
For what it's worth...radar guns operate in the microwave range of 10 and 35.2 GHz (except for 8-12GHz region that is allocated for marine, air, weather radar, etc). Microwave ovens operate generally at 2.4GHz. They travel at the speed of light (186282 miles per second).

I just bought a Passport 8500 X50 about 3 weeks ago. I ordered the hardwire kit for $9 straight from passport and mounted it up just to the left of my mirror. I hardwired it the sunroof power in the apiller which is the black wire with the yellow stripe. The hardwire "kit" comes with a little clamp that makes it SOOO SIMPLE to tap the power wire anyone can do it.
