Radar/Speed Detector

I'm planning to purchase a Radar/Speed Detector for my car. Well, I'm not a fast driver but I think getting a Radar/Speed Detector would help me not get pulled over by cops. Do you all think the Radar Detector would help??
I'm looking to spend between $100 - $200 for it. But the problem is that I have no idea which one is good and reliable. This is my first time buying a Radar Detector, so please leave me some links here if you guys know good places to buy.
Thanxs!

Is this legal in all states?? Is it legal in NJ??
And I just found this link, check it out and please inform me which brand is good. For me, I prefer to buy PNI Sensoro Silver Bullet. I think most of detectors have same functions only the prices are over at least $150. I don't think they have big differeces to me.

Radar detectors are not legal in all 50 states there are a few that have banned them. I have the Escort 8500 in my car and its awesome and has saved me from probably 10-15 potential tickets in the last year or so that pretty much makes it worth its weight in gold when you figure insurance costs and ticket prices now days. The main differences in radar detectors are what frequencies it searches for the directions it searches and the sensitivity or range that it has there are at least 3 radar frequencies laser and pop so a good detector should sence for all 5 longer the range the better but for most really good detectors your lookin at closer to 300 bucks a peice.

Thank you for your feedbacks Sentinal , I really appreciated it.
What happens when I get caught by cops that I've been using a Radar Detector. Do I get a ticket for it?? If so, I've got to buy a cordless one.

depends on the state you live in where I am at its not illigal to have/use them so worst I get is dirty looks from cops but if it is illegal in your state you could be ticketed for it... I do know a lot of people hide them in glove boxes or ash tray's etc so they aren't visable.

only downside to this is the more covered up they are the less their range is because its being blocked... unless you get one with an external sensor that you can place outside the car in a hidden spot then put the main control unit in a hiding place inside

Legal in NJ, but not in all states.

Here's a link to a page that says what states are restricted, and in what instances.

In a personal vehicle, they're only banned in Washington, D.C. and Virginia. Several states ban the use of them in commercial vehicles.

If you know someone who works at Best Buy, get them to hook you up on a Passport 8500. They retail for $300, but I got mine for $200 with the hookup. The Passport 8500 and the Valentine One (costs more new), are always rated #1 in comparisons of high end radar detectors, so you can't go wrong with either one. Valentine 1's advantage is that it has arrows showing which direction it came from.

Also, if you're gonna buy one, don't buy a cheap one, cuz they're crappy.

Try searching the forum for radar detectors there's a bunch of good threads.

I just bought a Passport 8500 X50 about 3 weeks ago. I ordered the hardwire kit for $9 straight from passport and mounted it up just to the left of my mirror. I hardwired it the sunroof power in the apiller which is the black wire with the yellow stripe. The hardwire "kit" comes with a little clamp that makes it SOOO SIMPLE to tap the power wire anyone can do it.

I just went through similar process of buying one. I did'nt want to spend 300 on what every body has.

I did some research and purchased Cobra DL7000 (i think), it's their highest version. In testing, it did very comparable to Passports and V's. From what I read all units have some fallacy. Cobra had similar range detection on K, Ka and X bands and I paid $120 shipped!!!

It also has built in electronic compass to boot! (my navigation)

If ur spending $100-150 on a detector, be prepared to get a ticket. I bought an Escort Passport 8500 for only $250 though. V1 is $400!!!!!!!!! Crazy but it's the best. I can send u link if u want the Escort Passport 8500 for $250.

The X50 and the Valentine are definately worth the money. I have an X50 and it has definately paid for itself. Besides having great range the X50 can show all the bands at once including number of sources and strength. The detector picks up x, k, ka, laser and pop radar. The Valentine does this as well with the addition of arrows to show direction.

Me and my friend bought a passport 8500 for his integ, but we used it for like a week or more, and it didn't work out well with us. If you're just trying to find cops in general so you can not do illegal things when their around then it does not work that way. It will detect Ka bands when their actual radar is on, and most of the time, their front and rear detectors are rarely on because 95% of the cops we passed, the radar didn't so jack didly squat. But when we passed by a bike cop, it was as full band ... dunno

I might get it again when I get a car, hoping cops will turn on their freaking radars.

WoW, you guys are great!!!! Thank you for all your feedbacks. I just read your replies, it's 3:22am, must go to sleep now and check the links tomorrow. I think, I should wait a little more and do more research on that and buy the best radar detector in good price, looking to spend between $200 - $300.
Good Night All~ Once again, Thank you for your infos.
