Rear differential lockup caused my accident?
I just got in an accident the other day. I'm fine, but my car is not. I was going around a a circle that merges onto a highway at about 30MPH - nothing even a stock evo couldnt handle. I've taken this corner at 80MPH before!
Anyways, just as I begin the turn, my back end starts going nuts. it starts kicking and skidding back and forth and then it completely kicks out and I am sideways. Luckily I was not going fast - i hit the guard rail with my front end at probly 10MPH. The first estimate for the damage was $17k!!!! the second estimate by another shop was $9k...
The roads were dry and I was not even going remotly quick. Did my rear differential lock up on me? I have heard of DSM's having recalls because of their rear differentials locking up.It was either that or an oil slick.
Anyone ever heard of an Evo rear diff locking up and the car spinning out???

The DSM recall was on the center diff. The rear seal would fail leaking all the fuild in the transfer case causing it to lock up.
Did you lift the throttle in the middle of the corner?

I heard no weird noises, and I didnt let up on the throttle. I've never seen any fluids leaking from my car before. I've had the back end kick out a little bit before while taking turns FAST, but they were easily correctable. I am on stock tires that have about 2000 miles on them. It COULD have been some fluid in the road, I dunno. If it wasnt such a busy intersection I would go back and check.
