Dark Engine Oil After 500 Miles
#36
Everyone here seems to neglect the fact that the Evo has an oil cooler. It does not get drained when the oil gets changed, so as soon as you start your car up all that dirty oil mixes into your fresh oil tinting it darker. Its not a big deal, bust just know thats why your oil gets so dirt so quickly.

Mine gets dark about half way between oil changes (1,500mi). Last year I sent my spent oil to Blackstone Labs to have it analyzed, they even send you the bottle and everything to put it in.
They send you back the documented results with all the elements found (in PPM) and a statement regarding the quality of the oil such as if the oil was overrun, moisture present and they give you recommendations such as change intervals. Even though my oil looked dirty, it was actually in really good condition.
Castrol Full Synthetic 10-40 w/ factory filter.

Your air filter can affect your oil cleanliness. I change my K&N filter to the Perrin and noticed my oil stays cleaner.
Also, if you vent your PCV and breather, the oil gets contaminated sooner.
