How To convert Non HID Evo to True HID
I don’t know about you, but I do a lot of driving. The low beams on a standard EVO are a bit lacking. The high beams are great. This is how to convert you EVO to HID low beams.
this kit is the Xelux 9006 HID Conversion
Tools needed are basic. Strait screw driver, Phillips screw driver, 10mm socket, 12mm socket, medium length extension, and a small ratchet.
Open hood to let the beast breath.
Remove this 10mm bolt. This gets this little clip thingy off.
Remove the 12 locks around the front base of the plastic under guard the car. Remove the two 10mm bolts in the front fascia. This is one of the bolts in both wheel wells and remove also the 2 locks in both wheel well that will need to be removed to remove the front fascia. This pic is in the drivers side wheel well.
With all fasteners removed, pull down firmly to pop out this little pin here.
Here is what the old head lights looked like.
Same. Blah.
Gently remove front piece.
To make wiring a bit easier on passenger side, remove two bolts holding overflow reservoir and move it out of the way.
To remove headlamps, remove this one lock to expose bolt holding on to lamp assembly. It hides behind this plastic panel.
There it is.
Next remove these two bolts
And this one bolt too.
Please take note, these are bit different from one to another, especially that black one. It has different threads. (No the Micro stubby was not used for any part of this.)
Here is the drivers side lamp removed.
This is the lamp itself. Remove low beam bulb and replace with new one. Make sure you do not touch these things. They can only go in one way.
Once you have both lamp assemblies out, you need to place the ballast and igniters for each unit. I found a suitable place one the frame rail.
Here is the ballasts and igniters.
Hmm decisions, will this work here? Yep, you need to pop the oil cooler out of the way by moving the support brackets. You need a 12mm socket here, just drop it down out of the way. This way you can gain access for drilling three small holes.
Make sure you dont bend the cooling fins.
There we go.
I decided on some self tapping bolts. I did use a slightly bigger bit than the one showed here.
Drill some small holes for mounting new parts. I would also recommend taking some primer on a little brush to treat the inside of the holes. Here is the passenger side all buttoned up. Looks like it belongs there.
Another look
If you can see beyond the glare from my head, this is the driver’s side. You need to move the pump unit for the ACD out of the way to gain access for drilling again. A couple small bolts, and gently move it to the side.
Here you go.
The wiring is very self explanatory. Plug and play. No splicing of anything. Clean clean clean.
Plug everything in and reverse your steps to install lamps and fascia. Don’t forget the bolts in the right spots.
Sorry these are a little dark. Very bright. Very Blue. This really did the trick.

Nice, when I installed my HID kit, I ended up zip tieing the ballasts to the fender liner as my kit didn't have as much slack as yours did - I was limited in where I could put the ballasts.

This is the 8000K kit. i know you can get them ranging from 3000K-14000K the colors go from a yellowinsh, to almost purple. the 8000k are Blue.

stock evo with HID's uses 20 amp fueses if i recall, i guess if they light up with 10 amp fuses then you are good, my HID conversion kit recommends changing them if they dont light up.
