You're safe with a K&N or Mobil 1 but I'm not sure why you don't want an OEM one...

I want an OEM one but it's not an option right now because....

1) I'm autocrossing this weekend so I NEED an oil change today before I go this weekend.

2) I'm very busy today. Otherwise I would just take it to the dealership and have them do it. However, driving there and back will take 30 minutes each way and another hour to have it done. That's 2 hours during business hours I do not have.

3) I can change the oil tonight myself but I can't get to the dealership to get the filter before close of business today.

4) Autozone is on the way home and they are open late.

So what would you do?

Fram is garbage, unless it's their top of the line filter, even which I'd still be somwhat wary....

The Mobil 1 is a good filter.

I ended up buying the mobil 1 oil filter. Compared side by side with the OEM the two looked almost identical. The Mobile 1, however, had a slightly smaller outer diameter so it may have less volume than the OEM.

I did notice, however, that it seemed like the Mobil 1 had more folds in the filter material compared to the OEM one I removed - as if maybe it had more filter surface area than the OEM one.

Aside from those differences, it fit well, no leaks, and has been working fine from what I can tell.

I wonder, however, if it could be beneficial to change the filter more often than you change the oil. Like change the filter at 1500 miles, then again at the next 3000 mile change. Maybe that would help keep the oil cleaner?

Mobil1 or K&N will work fine if you don't have access to OEM. I've even read that the two have better filtering design than ...how true, not sure. If you are going to change the filter, mine as well do the oil because it will pore down anyway
