Custom Intercooler Screen
#33
That's a cool idea. One I had was use silver screen and vacuum line on the ends to protect the bumper. I do like the idea and I modified it alittle.
I used black craft wire and the screen recommended here. I screened all the openings on mine. On the right lower is the oil cooler I wanted to protect. Above the big opening(the little openings is more intercooler) I wanted to protect. Above that is radiator I wanted to protect.
Here's some pics.
Also I like the looks.

Mines better ;)
I feel the bug net is too restrictive and I’ve been looking for something else. I was considering using what Mack uses to cover the intercoolers on their semi’s as it’s much better for air flow than the stuff you used. Fortunately a friend of mine found this other stuff for me and it’s perfect! I wish I could tell you guys where to get it at but apparently it was just laying around for a long time, so he gave it to me. If it was aluminum it would be 100% perfect but for free I can’t complain.
The first attachment shows, from left to right, your screen, my screen and OEM.
The second attachment is it fitted to my car. I just replaced the OEM screen with the new mesh since a few weeks back I sort of had an incident with a raccoon which bent the mesh and the upper brace it is attached to (contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to remove the bumper fascia to take out the mesh, or the intercooler for that matter). It was a lot of work but it was worth it to me.
BTW, I check the oil cooler from time to time and have yet to see any dings so I just left the stock mesh on there. Time will tell what this will do for bugs, but it should keep out stones which is the primary concern.
PS. If you should happen to come across some of this stuff, you may want to wear
gloves and long sleeves while working with it. My hands and arms look like I've been mauled by an angry cat!

I recently did this mod and I love it. It really helps to protect the intercooler and it still looks good. The whole thing cost about $9 for the screen and a bag of small tie wraps. Everything was obtained from home depot. Props to you man, for an awesome idea.

**ive since removed the bumper brace, consider it while you have the bumper off, it is very heavy and restricts airflow some. Come on, who's gonna wreck their evo anyways?? heh

**also like to note that there is very good flow with the honeycomb mesh... hard to find, but good flow, you can look at industrial sites online, or you can have a friend in the architecture building at Virginia Tech who has access to the stuff... I think it is used in HVAC applications...

Down in florida this is a must when the ole love bugs our out. I usually do the IC and the upper radiator (I guess). Anyway, good write up. I am going to use that as my template from now on...
Thx,
