Repairing a Front Lip

So I'm usually neurotic when it comes to steep driveways, but last night I rushed it, told myself I'm paranoid (5 years not a scratch), and ripped the thing up. So I feel like a complete idiot.

But it is what it is, and I need to fix it.

The damage consists of rough/deep scratched lower corner and the paint has separated from the lip in some areas due to the flex/stress that it went under. From what I can tell there are no cracks and all my mounting holes are intact. So I'm thinking I should be able to at least prep this for paint myself.

What sanding tools do I need: what grit and where, I never see these fine grit sandpapers at places like Home Depot? What sort of filler do I need: fiberglass, regular bondo?

I think I'll write it up because I know lots of us have made this same mistake. Or has someone already written this up?

And finally, any tips for removing the lip? I've taken the whole bumper off before but never just the lip.

I'm a little surprised nobody has jumped in here. So hopefully I can produce a good write up.

Some products I'm considering using:
http://www.jcwhitney.com/armor-all-r...terid=c21241j1

http://www.jcwhitney.com/armor-all-p...terid=c21241j1

The damage seems to be quite light. There is a slight increase in the gap between lip and bumper, might need to rework some holes.

Any comments on what filler products?

I was considering a jig, but I don't think the bumper should warp considering how minor the damage is.

I'm just curious, what lip did you damage? The oem IX lip or an aftermarket?

I know you are set on fixing it and doing a write up and sorry I cannot be of any help but, oem lips are about $250 (I think) through mitsubishiparts.net and do not come painted just fyi.

If you care that much about the condition of your car, do not prep the lip unless you know what you are doing.

I've never done it before, and I do care, but 250-350 for a new lip when $30 and some elbow grease can get me ready for paint? It's worth trying to do right. And are you speaking from experience here? Have you tried and had poor prep lead to bad paint?
