Replace Engine Thermostat
Just as the title says, I need to replace the engine thermostat on an 1997 Evo IV. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a guide or a how-to find and replace it! Thanks
Also as a side note I also need to change the front driver wheel bearing if anyone would know where to find that, it would be great if you could help me out thanks!

Attached is a visual as to where the thermostat is located. It should be two 12mm bolts.
1. Release the pressure in the system by removing the radiator cap. You can drain the entire system by bleeding the radiator OR if you want to do quick job, don't bleed the system. I'd drain the system if I were you
2. Loosen the bolts with the lower radiator hose still attached to the thermostat cover. and just pull it off (Take your time, it might be on there tight so be careful). Pay attention to how the thermostat sits in the housing
3. Clean out the thermostat housing if needed.
4. Use some engine oil to lube the rubber sleeve on the thermostat and put it back in, in the same position as the old thermostat was.
5. Put the cover back on, and tighten the bolts.
6. Fill up with DISTILLED WATER ONLY and a coolant of your choice, but don't cheap out. Aim for a 30/70 mix (30% coolant and 70% water). If you're in a cold climate flip the mix (70% coolant and 30% water). DO NOT use purified water or spring water as it will corrode the water system including the radiator.
7. Make sure to top up your overflow reservoir with the coolant mix.
8. Start the car with the radiator cap off, and let it get up to operating temperature. you can tap and squeeze the top radiator hose occasionally to get rid of air bubbles. if the coolant level drops fill it back up to the top.
9. If you don't see any more bubbles coming out of the radiator by the time the fan kicks in then you should be good. Have fun!
10. You can double check the next morning before you start the car if the car needs more coolant just to be safe and prevent the coolant gauge from fluctuating or even overheating.
