I just don't like the idea of dirty oil just sitting around in a resevoir under my hood, would much rather be able to a) see through the clear fuel fiter to see what's going on and b) be able to toss it when ever I want and put some new freshness back in probably not the most enviromental thing to do but it just works so well. consider this you don't have to worry about keeping steel wool or some sort of bariering material in the resevoir, the filter element takes care of absorbtion for you. I was actually just about to purchase the RRE unit but decided to just do what I did because it just seemed more efficient to me, regarding money and my own practical requirements. May I just say the guys at RRE are pretty high up in my book, they are awesome.

pretty much just all gets soaked up into the filter element. some might get back into the valve cover but all in all it's a very effective system. if you are talking about the mas pipe no it doesn't get back into there, I have a Buschur pipe that does away with that nipple from the stock recirculating system. if anyone does this with the stock pipe I would suggest just buying an appropriately sized rubber nipple and capping the stock nipple on the mas pipe off, the stock setup allows all of that waste oil coming from the crank case to get ingested into the intercooler eventually deteriorating it's performance.

I checked out Josh's DIY mods personally and must say Im quite impressed! Little guys got alot more to come also! The crankcase breather here doesnt recirc it VTAs through the APC filter after the fuel filter catches most of the crap. For Josh's mods keep em coming!

I know this is a dumb question, but why do we need a oil catch to begin with? What are its benefits?
Nonetheless, I am also impressed. Good job J.

Smogrunner, I believe that the stock system was set in place because it made the car LOOK clean to the EPA. It allowed crank case pressure to be relieved but circulated oil blow out into our intercoolers, which is bad and will eventually begin to reduce the efficiency of them. Buschur addressed this issue by eliminating the nipple on the mas pipe that connected to the valve cover that allowed oil to seep into the i/c via blow by. For me personally this was one of the main reasons I went with the Buschur. But after that line was eliminated I still needed a way to vent the crankcase pressure so I just stuck a little breather filter on the valve cover where the vacum line that previously led back to the stock mas pipe had attached. This began to get messy and leak the excess blow by oil from the valve cover onto my thermostat housing and the radiator hose leading to it, I didn't like this. That is why I came up with this little contraption.

Let me suggest my route. It's easy to empty, allows you to see exactly how much "stuff" you're collecting and is relatively inexpensive. Check it out, then come back to this thread and tell everyone else how great it is.

Very nice, a bit to much sphagetti for my taste, but I am a minimalist by nature, I just went for the shortest route possible for my specific needs. That blue filter does look pretty in your BBY Evo Bravo on the idea.

J, thanks. I had no idea. You should sell your little contraptions.
