Thanks for all the pics.

I couldn't read the entire thread.

When I took delivery in March of 2003 (Sunrise Mitsubishi - Oakdale NY. No longer in business) there was the smallest of a blemish on the wing. I would say like 1/16th of an inch. Barely noticeable.

Over time the blemish has grown and now it is the size of a quarter. There is no clear coat now in this small area. I am not sure I want to reclear the entire topside. If I were to coat just the uncovered fiber to hopefully prevent the blemish from growing what would you suggest?

Thanks in advance.

Flybyevo

PS - After 53,000 plus miles of smiles the Evo 8 is still as awesome as ever.

Thanks to all who have been here all these years!

Is there anything that can be done if the carbon fiber itself is damaged and not just the clear coat?

I wish I had an answer. The enthusiastic response to my post was overwhelming.

A shop nearby gave me an estimate of about $1,000 to refinish the carbon fiber wing.

Hate to bump a dead thread, but about to go through this and everything look straight forward except one part for me. The air compressor. Keep reading different things, like you need a real strong one for clearcoats. That you can't just use a regular compressor to spray the clearcoat.

Just curious what kind of air compressor any of you used.

I actually just used clear coat out of an aerosol can and it worked just fine. Just spray on in thin, even coats and do a little wet sanding and polishing when you get done and it'll good as new.

Just wanted to get confirmation if possible. I feel like I went too deep.

I'm currently using 600 grit w/ a sanding block. Primarily focusing on the parts that are raised trying to make it one smooth surface (which I'm still working on) the part that gets me nervous is that I'm on the raised parts and I'm getting the black residue on my tower when I wipe it down. That's telling me to stop but it's still really uneven. Itook a picture of a particular spot that's doing that, both dry, and when wet.

If you have black on your sander you must be through to the carbon
