Evo IX SE - Aftermarket Headunit in Upper Din

I'm going to be installing an aftermarket headunit into the stock location.

I've seen threads mention bypassing the stock AMP for the system.

Is this necessary on the SE's or only the GSR's with SSL?

I'm new to evo's and I haven't been able to find a definitive answer.

Thanks in advance.

Im pretty sure thats only if you have the ssl package. I don't believe I have an amp in mine... I have an 06 MR. Don't know if I have the ssl package or not. The easiest way to install it is to just go to an electronics store that does installs (ie. Fry's, best buy, etc.) and ask for a radio hookup harness for your evo. Then all you have to do is wire that harness to the harness that comes with the head unit, plug em in, and go. Its really easy, all the wires are color coded.

Gotcha, I'll still have to look into it more, but I assumed I'd just buy the harness and wire everything up.

I just have to make sure I hook up the antenna amplifier that I've been reading about.

I think it's only necessary to bypass amp if you have the evo with SSL package. good luck!

I can confirm that you are correct sir.

Just wired up everything, plugged stuff in and the radio was all set.
